After a rather mild fall, it has cooled down considerably in the last few days and even snow is possible on New Year’s Eve. Winter could set in at the weekend at the latest. In any case, you should dress warmly and be careful, especially on New Year’s Eve, to avoid slipping into the New Year with injuries.
Frost and snow on New Year’s Eve in Munich

According to the German Weather Service, there will be light snowfall in Bavaria during the course of the day today, spreading across the state from the north and east. Tonight in particular, there may be 5 to 15 cm of fresh snow, with the exception of some regions in the southwest. The cold weather will also bring frost and slippery conditions, so you should take care when you’re out and about to avoid falling and injuring yourself.
Snow also means clouds, which could obscure the view of the fireworks tonight. Temperatures are likely to remain in the minus range and there will be a light wind. This will intensify on January 1, but we will start the new year on a friendly note before clouds gather again. On New Year’s Day, snowfall from the north-west may occur again, causing icy roads. Be careful again if you leave the house to go shopping or visit someone.
Start of the year with fresh snow possible

According to the DWD, light snowfall is also possible on Friday and the sky will remain mainly cloudy. On Saturday, the cloud cover will thicken and the possibility of snow will remain. In addition, a moderate wind will blow from the southwest. Temperatures will remain in the minus range and the roads will be slippery.
Skiers might consider a trip to the mountains on the first weekend in January. With luck, Munich’s waterways will also freeze over, making ice skating possible, for example on the Nymphenburg Palace Canal. However, never enter the ice on your own authority, but wait for clearance from the city. For everyone else, it’s best to curl up at home with a good book and a cup of tea, or bake yourself a delicious apple strudel.
