After celebrating the turn of the year with New Year’s Eve, most of us want to relax and enjoy the holiday on January 1st without having to stress out. The best way to do this is to have already run your most important errands in advance, as most stores are not open. However, if you have forgotten something important, you can rest assured that shopping on New Year’s Day is still possible in some Munich stores.
Shopping on New Year’s Day: groceries

We can safely do without most things for a day if we haven’t thought about buying them or replenishing our supplies. However, if you don’t have any food in the house, it becomes critical. Fortunately, there are a few supermarkets and discount stores that are also open on public holidays, so you don’t have to resort to the more expensive restaurants.

More shopping opportunities on New Year’s Day

If you need to do some major shopping, the best places to go are the markets at the airport and train stations. If, on the other hand, you only need small items, you can also try a Rewe To Go at any petrol station. These are open around the clock and can be found in Kapuzinerstraße or Schwere-Reiter-Straße, for example. However, the Rewe To Go at the main station no longer exists.
There are also vending machines that provide you not only with the usual snacks, but also with everyday items or food. And some kiosks also stock a small selection of food and are open for shopping on New Year’s Day.
