Most of you have probably experienced the ice disco, where everyone skates across the ice to pop music and charts. Doing your laps to pounding beats and colorful lights is definitely fun, but not necessarily the most sociable experience. If you want to spend more time together on skates instead, then ice dancing might be the right thing for you. This combines classic couple dancing with ice skating. Ideal for couples in love or simply friends who want to try something new.
Ice skating in the open air on a boulevard

In summer, you can have fun in the outdoor pool and soak up the sun on the sunbathing lawn. In winter , the Prinzregentenstadion on the boulevard of the same name is transformed into an open-air ice rink where you can spend your time on 1,800 square meters of ice. The artificial ice rink here was the first of its kind in the south of Germany and the final of the German ice hockey championship was played here in 1933, the year it opened.
In addition to the ice rink and outdoor pool, the Prinze usually offers Munich’s largest sauna area all year round. After your session on the ice, you can warm up again here, although it is closed this season due to construction work. Apart from ice skating, you can also try curling in the stadium for the first time this year if you’re not keen on the sport. The “Aquamarin” kiosk provides refreshments.

If you’re looking for a change from the usual ice skating (or ballroom dancing), the traditional ice dancing at the Prinzregentenstadion might be just the thing for you. Every Sunday at 09:30, the warm-up begins to waltz and tango music. From 10 to 11 a.m. you will then learn the steps to dance together. You can then practise what you have learned and move more or less elegantly across the ice until 12 noon.
The highlight is the “Müchner Dipferl”, where you form a long human chain with other dancers. You hold on to each other cross-armed and do your laps forwards and backwards across the ice with small steps to the tune of Elvis, for example.
Participation in ice dancing lessons is free of charge and is aimed at anyone who can skate both forwards and backwards. Lessons take place in almost any weather and you can hire skates on site. If you would like to come for regular ice skating rather than ice dancing, you can buy tickets in advance online or at the box office in the Prinzregentenstadion.
