Summer in Munich is already knocking at the door, and the first truly warm days are just around the corner. June is just around the corner, and with it, swimming weather is making its return to Bavaria. Fortunately, we have no shortage of relaxing lakes and fun outdoor pools, but sometimes you just want a combination of both. There’s a solution for that, too: The Kronthaler Weiher near Erding is perfect for anyone who prefers swimming in a lake rather than a pool but still wants fun and action.
Sports, Games & Fun

Kronthaler Weiher is a 22-hectare quarry pond located just about 1.5 kilometers from the center of Erding. It was created in the 1960s for gravel extraction and is now a popular local recreation area. The shore is mostly gravel, but there is also a small sandy beach, similar to Hollerner See. This section of the shore is particularly suitable for families with children and anyone who finds simply lying in the sun and swimming too boring but still doesn’t want to go to the thermal baths.
On the edge of Kronthaler Weiher, you’ll find several beach volleyball courts, which is great for anyone who misses the sand beneath their feet in the English Garden. Things get even more action-packed on the trampolines, where you can literally jump for joy. If all that’s too physically demanding for you, you might prefer to burn off some energy with a round of table tennis instead. Or you can test your skills at a game of mini-golf on the adjacent course. There are also two playgrounds available for the little ones, where they can let off steam while you take a moment to relax.
Relaxation at Kronthaler Weiher
If you’re just looking forward to a relaxing day at the lake, you can experience that at Kronthaler Weiher, too. Just find a spot on the shore that’s a little further away from the sandy beach. Here you can sunbathe in peace, read, and go for a swim in the turquoise water.
If you stay until evening, you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful sunset reflecting on the water’s surface. Snacks and drinks are available at the kiosk, which is also located by the lake. If the weather isn’t suitable for swimming, Kronthaler Weiher is also wonderful for long walks.
