Spring brings the sun back to Munich, and with the time change, the days suddenly feel noticeably longer again. While some prefer to end their days in a beer garden when the weather is nice, others are looking for the best spot to watch the sunset in Munich. We’ll save you the trouble of searching by listing some of the best spots in the city. Whether for a romantic date or to spend the evening with friends, there’s a perfect spot in Munich for every need.
Hackerbrücke

The Hackerbrücke is the absolute classic among sunset spots in Munich. On nice days, people flock here and sit on the bridge’s metal beams, dangling their legs as they watch the sunset over the train tracks. To get a good spot, you should arrive early. Stock up on drinks and snacks at the Lidl near the ZOB and spend balmy evenings here. Take advantage of this opportunity this year before the Hackerbrücke closes on one side in 2027 due to renovations.
Olympiaberg

Another popular spot to enjoy the sunset in Munich is definitely the Olympiaberg in the Olympiapark. Spread out your blanket or towel on the grass and bring a snack to round off the day with a cozy picnic. On particularly clear days, you can even spot the mountains on the horizon. And even though the Olympic Stadium is undergoing renovations this year and therefore no open-air concerts are taking place there, with a bit of luck you can still enjoy live music, such as at Tollwood.
Cultural Rooftop Garden
Are there any cooler sunset spots than rooftop bars? Munich’s rooftop terraces offer a particularly great view of the sunset. The Kulturdachgarten on the former Gasteig site, in particular, offers a relaxed atmosphere and a fabulous view over the city. With refreshing drinks and delicious treats like pizza or burgers, you can linger and chat here while the sun gradually bathes everything in a warm, orange-red light.
Monopetros

When the weather is nice, the southern part of the English Garden acts like a magnet for Munich residents. Everywhere you look, people are chatting, laughing, or playing—whether it’s volleyball, spike ball, or beer pong. As the sun slowly but surely approaches the horizon, it’s time to climb the small hill to the Monopetros to watch it set from there. In the past, it was even possible to climb the Chinese Tower, but unfortunately that’s no longer allowed. Instead, you’ll have to make do with the pavilion.
Königsplatz

Sunset in Munich with Greek vibes: That’s what you’ll find at Königsplatz. Settle down on the steps of the State Collection of Classical Antiquities and watch the last rays of the sun flash between the columns of the Propylaea . During the Kinoliebe Festival in July, a variety of food trucks and drink stands are available, which you can enjoy even without attending a movie and stock up accordingly. This makes for an even better way to end the day!
Isar

What would a Munich summer be without the Isar? Whether for barbecuing, strolling, or swimming, this is where the city’s residents gather after work to enjoy the last rays of daylight. The glistening rays of the low-hanging sun let you feel the magic that makes Munich so special. If you stand on one of the bridges instead of the riverbank, you’ll get to enjoy the sunset a little longer.
Angel of Peace

It towers over the Maximiliansanlagen: the Friedensengel. Its terrace is the ideal spot to admire the sunset in Munich. From here, you look down on Prinzregentenstraße, where one museum follows another. Below you, the water in the fountain splashes; above you, the angel glows golden, competing with the sun. The view faces west, so while you can’t see the sun directly, you can admire its play of colors in the sky.
