Some would say that the perfect summer experience is to travel to a faraway land. That’s a misconception: you can have just as much (or more) fun in Munich. The heat, the cold drinks, the green grass and the fresh water… Really! What could be better than spending the day in or near a swimming pool?
You can work on your tan, practice your swimming strokes, play some beach volleyball or just lie there and watch the clouds float by. Whatever it is that gets you going, you won’t find a better place to do it than these six beautiful outdoor pools in Munich.
1. natural pool Maria Einsiedel
Naturbad Maria Einsiedel is the closest experience to swimming in a natural lake in the middle of the city. A 400 hundred meter long canal next to the Isar, natural water purification without any artificial chemicals, a separate nudist area and simply idyllic surroundings with sunbathing lawns and trees make it a Thalkirchen highlight that we love.
📍 Location: Zentralländstraße 28
2nd Schyrenbad
Inaugurated in 1847, the Schyrenbad is both a piece of Munich’s history and an excellent outdoor pool. Of course, it has been renovated several times since its opening, to the point that we like its wide range of facilities best. From wide water slides and a chess board to table tennis, a beer garden and 4 huge pools, it has something for everyone.
📍 Location: Claude-Lorrain-Straße 24
3rd Dantebad
The Dante-Winter-Warmfreibad is the spa among Munich’s outdoor pools. The list of facilities where you can relax and unwind is more than long. There is a 50-meter pool heated to around 27 degrees and a 30-degree wellness pool with underwater loungers and massage jets. Not forgetting the water mushroom and the current channel. Or the stadium grandstand for sunbathing. And for those who want to recover from so much relaxation, they can practice any sport on the large adjacent lawn.
📍 Location: Postillonstraße 17
4th Ungererbad
The Ungererbad in Schwabing offers the most complete summer experience of all the outdoor pools in Munich. No, we’re not exaggerating. Check it out for yourself: The water facilities include a sports pool with a diving tower – with trampolines 1 and 3 meters high. There are also two other pools, one for diving and one for refreshment for visitors, as well as a whole trampoline area. Oh, and an adventure pool and a paddling pool for the little ones. There’s an oasis for them too. Not to mention the separate nudist area for ladies. If that’s not enough, the sporty ones among you can work up a sweat on the two beach volleyball courts and the soccer pitch next to the pools.
📍 Location: Traubestraße 3
5th Georgenschwaige natural pool
Naturbad Georgenschwaige is definitely one of the most beautiful outdoor pools in Munich: It was renovated over several years and has now reopened for the first time! It offers chlorine-free, naturally treated water that flows through a 1000 m² filter circuit several times a day. There is also a 50-meter sports pool, a wide water slide and a children’s paddling area with a playground and a large sunbathing lawn. You can relax on a small sandy beach! You can help to maintain the high quality of the water by showering off before swimming.
📍 Location: Belgradstr. 195
6th Michaelibad in Neuperlach
The Michaelibad is the right place for all water lovers: Right next to the Ostpark, the “Michi” offers you four pools (sports pool, non-swimmers, diving pool and adventure pool). There is also a 10-metre diving tower and a 64-metre adventure slide. If that’s not enough, you can go indoors: Because the swimming pool also includes an indoor pool with an even longer 84-meter slide.
