After the Blitz Club already announced its closure on Museum Island, another closure is now hitting Munich’s nightlife scene. The DNA in the Werksviertel has now announced via social media that it will be closing its doors in September. The operators aren’t commenting on the exact reasons, but they remain hopeful.
From Party Hotspot to Club Decline
It’s hard to believe from today’s perspective, but Munich was once home to the largest party district in Europe. The Kunstpark Ost and, later, the Kultfabrik were home to around 30 clubs, plenty of bars, concert halls, and more spread across approximately 90,000 m². Today, the Werksviertel stands in its place, and while there are a few cool bars and recreational options here, the club scene is rather lackluster .
At least since 2023, the DNA has kept the flag flying high for techno fans here, offering an alternative to the nearby Schlagergarten. It was a ray of hope, especially since the Harry Klein on Sonnenstraße and the 8 Below on Schützenstraße closed their doors that same year. The DNA quickly gained a foothold in Munich’s techno scene and became an institution in no time. Nevertheless, after just three years, it’s already coming to an end.
The Closure of the DNA Club
After the first wave of bad news at the start of the year with the announced closure of the Blitz, the next shock has now followed. The DNA Club announced via Instagram that it would be closing—at least “in its current form.” In the post, the operators express their gratitude for the past few years and announce that the club will close in September. At the same time, they write in the comments: “Every ending is also the beginning of something new… STAY TUNED.” So there may still be hope for DNA fans after all.
Whether and how things will continue in the future remains to be seen. According to the club’s own website, the final event at DNA will take place on September 19. So you still have a few weekends left to say goodbye to the club and party to techno in the Werksviertel.
