After Harry Klein closed its doors for good in recent years, Munich’s club scene is facing another loss in the near future. Blitz on Museum Island is one of the few clubs in Munich, alongside P1, that is known beyond the city limits. Unfortunately, the establishment will not be around for much longer at its current location, as Blitz is closing its doors this year. What the future holds is still unclear.
A first-class sound experience

Blitz opened in March 2017 and caused the street to be closed due to the large crowds. The club is entirely focused on the musical experience, which is why the DJs are not on a podium but at the same level as the dance floor. The focus is on the experience itself, not the person at the turntables. The PA system at Blitz is considered the best in Munich and is also one of the best in Germany. Well-known national and international DJs regularly perform here, letting you feel the powerful sound of their tracks.
However, this special kind of party experience is set to come to an end for the time being this year. The lease on the premises of the Deutsches Museum expires at the end of September. According to museum spokesperson Gerrit Faust, minor renovations are necessary. These are to be completed by early 2027, after which the club would have been able to move back into the location. However, the operators of Blitz did not want this. The restaurant “Blitz Bar & Bistro” will also have to move out. It is not yet clear who will move into the location in the future.
Is Blitz moving?

The operators themselves have not yet made an official statement, but rumour has it that Blitz could continue at a new location. According to rumours, it has already found a new home at Münchner Freiheit. This would put Blitz in the middle of Munich’s nightlife, unlike its previous premises on Museum Island. No one has yet been able to confirm whether this is true.
The club was actually only supposed to move into the Deutsches Museum on a temporary basis. However, the evening visitors to the island were so welcome that the contract was repeatedly extended. As a result, the temporary use turned into nine years of club operation. This summer, however, the last party will take place at Blitz before it finally has to move out at the end of September. The last party will be held from Friday, July 31 to Monday, August 3. After that, Blitz will join the other closures in Munich in 2026.
