“April, April, does whatever it wants”—a month full of surprises. From sunshine to rain to snow—you never know what to expect. But you can count on one thing: it’s definitely springtime! The days are getting longer (no more darkness at 5 p.m.), the sun is shining more often, and it’s lifting our spirits. The desire for outdoor seating, outdoor activities, and leisurely strolls through lovely flea markets is growing noticeably! And one thing is certain: April in Munich won’t disappoint you. Check this out, because we’re bringing you the hottest tips of the month!
Isarflux Festival
The Isarflux Festival transforms Gasteig HP8 on Easter Sunday into a platform for music, subculture, and social engagement. What makes it special: The trainees at Gasteig München GmbH organize the entire event entirely on their own. The program mixes punk bands with musical theater, folk sounds, and live DJs in an industrial setting. Away from the stage, you can snag some old-new treasures at the integrated clothing swap or learn about social engagement at the booths of initiatives like Green City and Sea-Eye. The focus is on a community experience that combines partying with social relevance.

Not only the new Gasteig, but also the old Gasteig will accompany you musically through April. The tribute event “The Jazz Room” at Fat Cat brings the era of classic swing and jazz back to life in Munich. A live band reinterprets the most influential works of Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong, focusing on the musical legacy and cultural influence of both icons. The program features global hits like “Fly Me to the Moon” and “What a Wonderful World” in an intimate club setting. You’ll share tables with other guests, making it a social experience that combines music and conversation.
Crime Fiction Festival

Thriller fans, take note! The Crime Festival is back in Munich and will once again transform the city into a hub for crime fiction and true-crime formats this April. Top-tier authors and industry experts, such as profiler Alexander Horn and investigator Helmut Eigner, will present their latest works at authentic locations. The selection of venues ranges from the Autopsy Lecture Hall to the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office, ensuring an authentic experience. Listed by The Guardian as one of the world’s best genre festivals, the 2026 event will feature readings, book premieres, interactive formats, and real criminal cases.
Tame Impala live
You won’t have to miss out on big concerts in April either. After a five-year hiatus, Kevin Parker is bringing his project Tame Impala to Munich for a monumental arena show. He’s bringing along his new album “Deadbeat,” which combines minimalist textures with influences from Australian rave culture and the band’s signature psychedelic pop sound. Look forward to new hits like “Dracula” and “End of Summer.” You can expect a mix of synth-pop, rock, and R&B that will put the Olympiahalle into a trance-like state.

Following its international success, the DroneArt Show returns to Munich in April. Hundreds of synchronized drones transform the night sky above the racetrack into a dynamic canvas of light figures and geometric patterns. A string quartet provides musical accompaniment for the show, precisely synchronizing the sounds with the drones’ flight. The open-air spectacle delights audiences of all ages by utilizing the racetrack’s expansive grounds to create an immersive atmosphere. Since the event takes place outdoors, be sure to dress warmly. Food and beverage options will be available on-site.
Courtyard Flea Markets

It’s that time of year again, and the backyard flea markets are kicking off the season this month. If you’re in the mood for some relaxed browsing away from the usual flea market atmosphere in April, a detour to the different city neighborhoods is well worth it . Every weekend, you can go on a treasure hunt in the private backyards of a different neighborhood. In April, these markets—inspired by American yard sales—take place every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Spring Festival

Like every year, the Frühlingsfest kicks off in mid-April and officially rings in the festival season. This time, a very special edition of the “Little Wiesn” is taking place, as it’s celebrating its 60th anniversary! To mark the occasion, the Frühlingsfest has been extended by a week, so you can look forward to three weeks of authentic fun. In addition to various rides, the two festival tents, Bayernland and Hippodrom, will be back again this year, and of course the Weißbiergarten. On the first Saturday, you can hunt for bargains at Bavaria’s largest flea market, and there will be fireworks on two evenings.
Spartan Race

Are you in the mood for some action? Then don’t miss the Spartan Race in the Olympiapark. The individual races combine technical obstacles with the terrain’s topography. The course takes you through mud, sand, and fire, with the climb up the Olympiaberg serving as the highlight. As a participant, choose between 5 or 10 kilometers, the Night Sprint, or the four-hour Hurricane Heat. Children ages 4 and up can also participate in their own mini-races. If you don’t want to get covered in mud yourself, you can also join as a spectator and cheer on the participants.

Enjoy your favorite music reimagined as classical pieces by the light of hundreds of candles. Experience string players and pianists performing well-known hits by Taylor Swift, Linkin Park, or popular video game soundtracks in a relaxed atmosphere. With a program ranging from the ’80s to modern anthems, there’s a concert for every musical taste. A special evening you won’t soon forget.
Turkish Film Days
The Turkish Film Days kick off their 37th edition this April. Founded in 1989, the SinemaTürk Filmzentrum e.V. association brings artistically ambitious films from and about Turkey to the big screen. You’ll discover productions by filmmakers of diverse ethnic backgrounds that cover both historical retrospectives and cutting-edge topics. The festival kicks off with the opening ceremony on April 17, during which the Honorary Award will be presented to actress Nur Sürer.
Auer Dult

Even before the Spring Festival ends, the next folk festival kicks off in the Au. Every year, the Auer Dult kicks off its spring edition on the Saturday before May 1. At Mariahilfplatz, you’ll once again find sweet and savory treats to sample as you stroll through the ceramics market. Stock up on new household goods or pick out lovely gifts for your loved ones. Meanwhile, kids will be spinning around on the carousels.
Radikal Jung

For theater fans, the “Radikal jung” festival at the end of April is an absolute must! Here, young directors from all over the world come together to present their innovative and provocative plays at the Volkstheater. Immerse yourself in the world of contemporary theater and experience exciting productions of classics like “Antigone,” “Elektra,” or “The Visit.” Discover the theater makers of tomorrow as they take the stage at the Volkstheater. And who knows, maybe your new favorite is among them.
Dance into May

From April 30 to May 1 is Walpurgis Night, traditionally celebrated with the “Dance into May.” In Munich , there are several events and parties you can attend , such as the Subs “Dance into May” at Substanz or the events at the Hofbräuhaus and Hofbräukeller. New this year is the RAVE.olution on Marienplatz, which gets you in the mood for the demonstration the following day.
On April 30, Wonderful Days celebrates the 90s rave sound across five floors at Neuraum.
