Munich offers numerous day festivals where you can celebrate outdoors in the summer. But if you’re longing for open-air festivals lasting several days, you don’t have far to go. Numerous large and well-known festivals of all genres are less than three hours away from Munich. You can choose between techno, house, metal, rock, rap, hip hop, and other genres and subgenres. Experience world stars live and discover smaller artists at this summer’s festivals.
Ikarus

The Ikarus Festival in Memmingen has only been around for 11 years, but in that time it has increased its visitor numbers almost tenfold. It is now one of the biggest EDM festivals and regularly welcomes famous DJs and producers. The genre mix ranges from techno to house to Goa and even a little hip hop. A total of eight stages await you this year, where you can hear Paul Kalrkbrenner, Harrison & Ford, Ikkimel, and others.
Modular

Modular in Augsburg is the largest non-profit festival of its kind in Bavarian Swabia. Originally an indoor event, it is now celebrated over three days in the open air at the old gasworks. You can look forward to a varied program both on stage and in the square. This year’s lineup includes Ski Aggu, Paul Wetz, and Luvre47.
Rock im Park

No festival summer is complete without Rock im Park. The sister festival to the world-famous Rock am Ring has exactly the same line-up and features the crème de la crème of the rock and metal scene. This year’s lineup includes Iron Maiden, Volbeat, Electric Callboy, Within Temptation, Linkin Park, and many other well-known names. Artists from other genres, such as Finch and Materia, provide the perfect variety.
Heroes

Fans of rap and hip hop should mark the third weekend in June in their calendars. That’s when the Heroes Festival will take place again in Geiselwind, bringing the stars of the scene to the stage. Bonez MC, SSIO, Rin, Bausa, and Kool Savas will be there. If you don’t have time in June, don’t despair: Heroes is a series with two other festivals in Hanover and Freiburg. If you don’t mind traveling a little further, you can still catch the event.
Electric Love
Admittedly, Electric Love is not a Bavarian festival, nor is it even a German one. But Salzburg is not too far from Munich and can even be reached with the Deutschlandticket. Austria’s largest electronic festival boasts a terrific line-up that we didn’t want to keep from you. Headliners include Swedish House Mafia, Armin van Buuren, Dimitri Vegas, and KSHMR.
Open Beatz

Open Beatz is one of the largest festivals in southern Germany and now attracts almost 100,000 visitors annually. From techno and house to trance and Goa to drum ‘n’ bass and hardstyle , electronic music lovers get their money’s worth here . This year’s line-up includes genre greats such as Neelix, Sa Tweekaz, Timmy Trumpet, Blasterjaxx, Alle Farben, and Cascada. Fans of Felix Lobrecht can look forward to his live debut as Azzle 447, when beats instead of jokes will be hitting your ears.
Summer Breeze

Things get hard and heavy at Summer Breeze near Dinkelsbühl. Alongside Rock im Park, it ranks among the ranks of rock and metal festivals, so you can expect hard riffs, breakdowns, screams, and growls. But before you jump into the mosh pit, the Blasmusik Illenschwang brass band will open the festival for you, as is tradition. After that, you can look forward to bands such as Arch Enemy, Eisbrecher, and Nanowar of Steel.
Echelon
Venture into the forbidden grounds of the Echelon Festival. Here you can party both outdoors and indoors on various stages to house and techno music. Experience immersive shows and look forward to the new features in 2026. For the first time, weekend visitors can take a shuttle to the nearby swimming lake at Schelmer Hof, where a chill-out area with a DJ awaits you. In addition, the Symbiotikka stage is returning, bringing the legendary KitKat to Bavaria. This year’s lineup includes Charlotte De Witte, Basswell, HBZ, and Holy Priest.
