May 1 is known as Labor Day in many countries around the world and is celebrated as a holiday. Until the Middle Ages, however, it was also the feast day of Walburga, commemorating her canonization. In her honor, Walpurgis Night was celebrated the evening before, during which people danced around a bonfire. This tradition gave rise to today’s May Day dance, for which there are numerous events every year where you can experience a lively celebration.
RAVE.OLUTION loud.strong. 26

As every year, May Day is celebrated in grand style on Marienplatz. There hasn’t been a “Dance into May” here before, but that’s changing this year: The DGB Youth invites you to RAVE.OLUTION, where you can party to electronic beats under the open sky from 7 to 10 p.m. DJ Alicea and DJ Yugo will be spinning for you and turning Marienplatz into a dance floor.
Subs May Dance
Substantial madness awaits you—how could it be otherwise—at Substanz. Germany’s self-proclaimed southernmost harbor pub opens its doors for you on April 30 at 6:30 p.m. so you can fuel up for the party with pizza and fun drinks. Starting at 10 p.m., Don Schmocko and Mäx will be on the decks to get you fired up with a colorful mix. Admission is free, but you can reserve a table in advance.
Milla Club
You can also dance into May at the Milla Club. Schneider and Davidopoulod will get the dance floor shaking with international beats, so you’re guaranteed not to be able to stand still. You’ll also receive red carnations, which are a traditional symbol of the labor movement and represent the rising sun. You can admire the real thing on your way home.
P1 Terrace Opening

Just in time for the start of the merry month of May, P1 opens its terrace for you, so you can dance into May both indoors and outdoors. The party kicks off at 7 p.m., allowing you to celebrate into the sunset and get a first taste of summer. With the perfect soundtrack, the party continues through the night and into the holiday. You can get tickets for the terrace opening here.
Hofbräukeller

What better place to celebrate the May Dance than the Hofbräukeller on Wiener Platz? After all, the Maypole is right outside the door. In the grand ballroom, the Cagey Strings will play for you and ensure a proper party. In the Isarsaal, a DJ will spin boogie and other dance music so you can celebrate the start of May in style. If you’d rather be outdoors, the beer garden is of course open as well.
Wonderful Days – The Classic Rave Festival
A new festival is coming to Munich and invites you to dance into May! Wonderful Days is a Germany-wide event series that makes its first stop in Munich on April 30. On Thursday night, the Neuraum transforms into the ultimate rave, reviving the spirit of the 1990s. Party to trance, techno, and hardcore across five floors and rediscover the old-school sound of the decade.
Singles Party

May brings new beginnings—maybe that applies to your single status, too. The Palais Club creates a stylish, elegant atmosphere where you can find your new love. To kick off the evening, you’ll receive a welcome drink so you can settle in at your own pace. Over several rounds, you’ll get to know the other singles at the party, with participants divided into age groups. Between rounds, you’ll dance to music from the ’90s and 2000s —alone or with your new acquaintances.
9Y Blitz Anniversary

The legendary Blitz Club is celebrating its birthday one last time on Museum Island before leaving the location. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite make it to a full decade, but that doesn’t mean the party over the first weekend in May will be any less ecstatic. In keeping with its 9th anniversary, the party is themed around the Kitsune, the nine-tailed fox of Japanese mythology, which symbolizes the club’s rebirth. You can look forward to two days and three nights of non-stop partying with more than 50 artists. So you’ll be dancing not only into May 1st, but also right out of it.
TanzWerk

TanzWerk invites both its students and guests to the May Dance. If you already attend the dance school, this is your chance to show off what you’ve learned. If not, this is the perfect evening to get a feel for it. Hit the dance floor and enjoy the delicious May punch. Feel free to come in dirndls and lederhosen; however, there is no strict dress code.
