Munich offers numerous flea markets where you can browse and haggle both indoors and outdoors all year round. Particularly popular are the Hofflohmärkte, where you can hunt for bargains in the backyards of private homes during the spring and summer months. Thanks to the rotating concept, these markets can be perfectly combined with a discovery tour through new neighborhoods.
An institution for over 20 years

René Götz is the founder of the Hofflohmärkte and launched the first edition in 2004. Inspired by yard and garage sales in the U.S., he brought a similar concept to Munich, from where it spread throughout Germany. Today, you can go bargain hunting not only in the Bavarian capital but also in other major German cities such as Cologne or Stuttgart.
Over 500 events now take place annually across the country. The concept is incredibly simple. Every weekend, a backyard flea market takes place in a different part of the city. Residents of the respective neighborhood can sell their unwanted treasures in their own backyard or garden, all from the comfort of home. The focus is primarily on the community aspect, which brings neighbors and visitors closer together through more personal interaction.
Yard Flea Markets 2026 in Munich
If you’d like to participate as a seller at one of the Hofflohmärkte, you can register up to three weeks before the scheduled date in your neighborhood. Your home will then be marked on the tour map so that interested visitors know where to shop. For visitors, the Hofflohmärkte offer the perfect opportunity to get to know the people in your own neighborhood better or to discover other parts of Munich you would otherwise never have visited.
