The Zamanand Festival is one such event; it returns to Munich in 2026, and its focus isn’t purely on entertainment. From Car-Free Day to a Street Festival of Change
The Zamanand Festival actually has its roots in Munich’s “Car Free Day, ” which the city itself launched. This initially evolved into the Streetlife Festival, which, however, was on the verge of being canceled after nearly 20 years due to the pandemic. Together with Sparda Bank, however, the event was saved and now takes place every year as the Zamanand Festival.
The original concept remains intact: a street festival that not only brings people together through cultural offerings but also draws attention to serious issues. The themes revolve around society, change, and sustainability, and are brought to life for guests during their visit.
The first Zamanand Festival in 2026
The Zamanand Festival takes place twice a year, with the first event this year on June 20 and 21. It stretches from Odeonsplatz to the Siegestor, where it transitions almost seamlessly into the Corso Leopold. The latter originally emerged as part of the Streetlife Festival and has evolved over time into an event of its own, which you can visit alongside the Zamanand Festival.
This weekend, you can look forward to numerous informative booths and workshops on Ludwigstraße where you can delve into a wide variety of topics. Explore issues of equality, environmental protection, and urban design, and gain exciting insights into a diverse range of projects and offerings. In addition, there will be numerous concerts and musical performances on a total of eight stages, featuring genres ranging from EDM to hip-hop, pop, and rock.
At Geschwister-Scholl-Platz, one of the largest mobile ramps for skateboards and BMX bikes awaits you, and you’ll get to see spectacular stunts at the Further Contest. At the AHA Super Science Summer Club, you’ll experience science up close and meet the legendary Prof. Dr. Harald Lesch in person. And the new Kulturstrand is also part of the festivities, welcoming you with art and themes related to urban design.
