September in Munich really picks up steam once again before the long winter sets in, offering the last open-air events of the year, such as music festivals, outdoor movie theaters, and street festivals. Among the latter is the Zamanand Festival, which returns to Munich in 2026 and isn’t focused solely on pure entertainment. From Car-Free Day to a Street Festival of Change
The Zamanand Festival actually has its roots in Munich’s “Car Free Day, ” which the city itself launched. This initially evolved into the Streetlife Festival, which, however, after nearly 20 years, was on the verge of being canceled due to the pandemic. Together with Sparda Bank, however, the event was saved and now takes place every year as the Zamanand Festival.
The original idea behind the concept remained intact: a street festival that not only brings people together through cultural offerings but also draws attention to serious issues. The themes revolve around society, change, and sustainability, and are brought to life for guests during their visit.
The Second Zamanand Festival in 2026
The first edition of the Zamanand Festival took place back in June, and the second edition kicks off on September 12 and 13. It stretches from Odeonsplatz to the Siegestor, where it merges almost seamlessly into the Corso Leopold. The Corso Leopold originally began as part of the Streetlife Festival and has evolved over time into its own event, which you can visit alongside the Zamanand Festival.
This weekend, you can look forward to numerous informative booths and workshops on Ludwigstraße, where you can delve into a wide variety of topics. Explore issues of equality, environmental protection, and urban design, and gain exciting insights into a diverse range of projects and offerings. In addition, there will be numerous concerts and musical performances across a total of six stages, featuring genres ranging from EDM and hip-hop to pop and rock.
