First Sportscheck on Neuhauserstraße, then the Ratskeller in the New Town Hall, and now Wormland on Marienplatz: more and more established institutions are leaving Munich’s city center. But they are also making room for newcomers, such as the Adidas flagship store, which is set to move into the old C&A building, and the comic book store in the town hall. Rumor has it that there is already a potential successor for Wormland . How much truth there is to these speculations is currently unclear.
Wormland in bankruptcy

The Wormland fashion store at Marienplatz 28 has four floors with a direct view of City Hall. It shares the building with Café Glockenspiel, with the upper floors serving as storage space. Many can only dream of such a location, but it also comes at a price. The annual rent is said to be €3 million. This is too high for Wormland, which filed for bankruptcy for the second time in 14 months in November 2025.
The bankruptcy now spells the end for Wormland on Marienplatz, as the store will remain closed from now on. Previously, the fashion house’s insolvency administrator did not want to confirm the end of the lease. The current contract was actually due to run until the end of 2027, but now it has come to a premature end.
Alleged successor from Switzerland

According to information from the industry magazine Textilwirtschaft, a successor for Wormland has already been found. Several major brands have expressed interest, including Nike and Lululemon. However, Swiss chocolate manufacturer Lindt & Sprügli won the race. However, the company neither confirmed nor denied the new opening.
It remains to be seen whether it will actually move into the 1,500 square meter space in the future. Lindt currently has 620 stores around the world, including one in Munich’s Karlsplatz in the Stachuspassagen. There you can buy chocolate bars, pralines, Lindor balls, and seasonal goods. But maybe you’ll soon be able to buy these sweet delicacies at Marienplatz as well.
