After C&A moved into the former SportScheck building, it was unclear for a long time what would happen to the building. Now there is a successor who will also fill the gap left by SportScheck’s departure from the pedestrian zone. This is what we know so far about the new superstore.
Successor in the C&A store

A lot happened in Munich’s pedestrian zone last year. SportScheck had to leave Neuhauser Straße because the rent was too high and launched a major clearance sale. C&A also moved out of its store in Kaufingerstraße due to the high rent, but wanted to remain loyal to the city center. So C&A took over the Joseph-Pschorr building, resulting in an almost seamless transition.
The C&A building, on the other hand, which had housed the fashion store since 1950, has been empty since the move. But now there is new information about the successor: Adidas is to take over a large part of the retail space. The sporting goods manufacturer also closed its store at Sendlingerstraße 18 in 2024. It had been trading for an Adidas Terrex store, the first in Europe. This had specialized in outdoor sports clothing and equipment and had only opened in 2021. Now Adidas is back. And bigger than before, with a flagship store.
New Adidas flagship store in the center of Munich

Anyone who has ever shopped in the old C&A knows that the store was big. And the new Adidas store will also be big, although it won’t take up the entire space. The new flagship store will measure 2,000 square meters spread over two floors, a true shopping paradise for sports fans.
The interior of the building is currently still being renovated and it will be a while before it opens. There is currently talk of the end of 2027, but a more precise date is not yet known. It is also not yet clear to whom the remaining retail space will be rented and with whom Adidas will share the building in future. The building is to be converted into a mixed-use property called AIM. In addition to stores, it will also house a restaurant and office space.
