For years, the Comic Company in Frauenhoferstraße was the place to go for comic fans in Munich. Then, in January of this year , came the bad news for the scene: the store had to close. Since then, there has no longer been a specialized store of this kind in Munich and fans have had to turn to the surrounding area instead. Fortunately, this is set to change again from 2026, as a new comic store is coming to the city, right in the center!
The end of an era: The Comic Company
Accordingly, there was great sadness in the scene when the end of the Comic Company was announced. The building was sold and Zemann wanted to avoid being made redundant. He therefore left Frauenhoferstraße more or less voluntarily without having found a successor. Munich’s only comic store of its kind thus disappeared.
A new comic store in Munich’s town hall
After Munich remained without a comic store for almost a year, the good news has finally arrived: a new store is set to open in the middle of Munich’s city center in mid-January 2026. Michael Khambekar, who once worked for the Comic Company himself for a short time, will manage the store. On January 15, the comic store will open in the new town hall right next to the tourist information office, where you can browse and store extensively.
The city of Munich is funding the project, but only for one year. Until then, Khambekar will have to find a new location to ensure that the new comic store is not just short-lived. The owner knows his way around the scene and has repeatedly helped out at the Munich Comic Festival. So there is hope for the Munich comic scene if the project succeeds. We are definitely keeping our fingers crossed!
