With all the holidays, quiet days and weekends towards the end of the year, it’s hard to keep track of changing store opening hours or timetables. Many stores also close earlier on New Year’s Eve and buses and trains do not run at their usual times. On January 1, different times and timetable arrangements apply once again due to the public holiday. But don’t worry, you’ll still get to your destination because public transport won’t let you down on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Well through the night with MVV on New Year’s Eve

During the day, public transport runs on the Saturday timetable on both New Year’s Eve and Christmas Eve. At night, however, the frequency is higher so that you can get home safely after the celebrations. This means that both the subway and the night buses and night streetcars run throughout the night.
For buses and streetcars, this means a journey every 30 to 60 minutes, sometimes you only have to wait 15 minutes. In addition, the buses sometimes use larger vehicles. As the Friedensengel is a popular hotspot on New Year’s Eve for watching the fireworks, bus 100 runs here from 11 pm and is diverted between Reitmorstraße/Sammlung Schack and Friedensengel.
The subway trains run much more frequently. Until 1 a.m., lines U1 to U6 run every 10 minutes, and until 2 a.m. there is a subway train every 20 minutes. After that, there will be a half-hourly service. The U5 even runs every 10 minutes until 2 a.m. and the U2 also commutes between Kolumbusplatz and Milbertshofen. You can find the exact details in the MVV app.
Because of the New Year’s Eve mile: Detour also on New Year’s Day

On New Year’s Day, as on all other public holidays, the Sunday timetable applies. This means that you can usually travel every 10 minutes by subway and every 10 to 20 minutes by bus and streetcar. However, due to the New Year’s Eve mile on Ludwigsstraße, which is taking place for the first time this year, there will be a few deviations and detour in the bus timetable. Some stops will be canceled and relocated. Please refer to the relevant notices.
From December 28 to January 22, Ludwigsstraße will be closed to traffic and buses will have to take detours. Several routes will be affected, including the two ring bus routes 58 and 68, as well as the 153 and 154. In addition, the night bus routes N40, N41 and N42 will be diverted between Hohenzollernstraße and Maximiliansplatz.
