Dancing is fun—even science confirms it. That’s why the Gasteig is the perfect place for you to get your fill of happy hormones this weekend. At “Tanz den Gasteig,” the cultural center transforms into the city’s largest dance floor, bringing together young and old, big and small. Look forward to a celebration full of music and movement.
A Birthday Dance Party

“Tanz den Gasteig” is an annual event that has become an integral part of Munich’s event calendar. When people of all ages come together to dance, a genuine sense of community emerges—one that’s often missing elsewhere. This year, “Tanz den Gasteig” also marks the finale of the cultural center’s anniversary season: the Gasteig’s 40th anniversary has been celebrated here since last fall. For this occasion, the huge disco ball PLAY by artist Ayzit Bostan was installed in Hall E—the perfect backdrop for a dance party.
And there’s plenty of dancing to be had here. On Saturday, July 25, it’s that time again, and “Tanz den Gasteig” kicks off its next edition. From 3:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., there will be plenty of workshops followed by parties that you can attend for free. Everyone who wants to join is invited. Whether young or old, tall or short, beginner or pro, alone or with a partner—you can all let loose and hit the dance floor.
Around the World with “Tanz den Gasteig”

On Saturday at the Gasteig, you’ll be dancing across seven halls and two open-air areas. In the afternoon, various workshops and classes will take place where you can learn a wide variety of dances. Styles from all over the world are represented, so you can take a dance-filled trip around the globe. From ballroom to house, breaking, and hip-hop, all the way to Afrohouse, salsa, and K-pop —practically everything is covered. Numerous workshops are specifically geared toward teens and children, so every age group is catered to. There are also courses for partner dancing, which you can take with a partner —though you’re sure to find someone to dance with right there at the event.
In addition to the workshops, you’ll also have the chance to get your makeup done on-site in a festival-style look. That way, you’ll be perfectly styled right away for the evening parties. Whether it’s Salsa House or the Silent Disco with three channels to choose from, you’ll find just the right fit. Hall X also hosts dance battles where experienced dancers show off their skills. There’s even a kids’ disco in the afternoon, so the little ones can enjoy their own party at “Tanz den Gasteig” too.
