What could be nicer than ending the day with a cool drink or a delicious meal in a pub garden? Beer gardens are among the Bavarian classics, but you can now also find Austrian-style pub gardens everywhere in Munich. Often decorated with flowers and fairy lights, they create a cozy atmosphere. We explain what they are all about and which Schanigärten are worth a visit.
What is a pub garden?

First things first: What is a Schanigarten anyway? The Schanigarten is an outdoor area of cafés or restaurants. They are usually located on public land, on sidewalks and in former parking bays. They are usually separated from the street by pallets or similar, which are then painted, fitted with flower boxes or decorated in other ways. This gives them their very own charm. The Schanigarten season is usually from March/April to the end of October.
Some restaurants make a special effort when it comes to the design of their pub gardens. Below you will find a small selection.
1st Versperia
The name is based on the Swabian and Baden “Vesper”, which corresponds to the Bavarian “Brotzeit”. In addition to the various Verpser plates, there is also a selection of burgers and individual pasta dishes. You can enjoy your dinner or aperitif under colorful fairy lights. The quiet Schmellerstraße offers a pleasantly peaceful environment. Ideal for long conversations about God and the world!
