If you want to see the world’s stars and starlets live on stage, these days you’re often willing to shell out a small fortune. But live music doesn’t always have to be expensive. On the contrary, Munich offers numerous free festivals and concerts, such as the Candy Open-Air or the Theatron Pentecost Festival. With the Pop-Up Stage, there has been another free concert format since 2021 where you can discover up-and-coming acts without having to pay a single cent. This year, there are once again several dates spread throughout the year where you can party both indoors and outdoors.
Culture for everyone
The Munich District Youth Council (KJR) has made it its mission to make culture accessible to everyone. The Pop-Up Stage is therefore free of charge and is primarily held in the city’s outlying districts. The concept is modeled after pop-up stores, which are only temporarily located at a single site—hence the name. The initiative is primarily aimed at young people, as they often have less money and are less mobile or independent. But of course, anyone who is interested is welcome to attend the concerts.
Pop-Up Stage Dates 2026

Together with Puls from BR, the KJR is now organizing the Pop-Up-Stage for the sixth time, touring the city’s neighborhoods. After kicking off in mid-May, you can catch it on four more dates this year. Each evening, three acts will perform for you, delivering fresh sounds and shaking the stage. Plus, there are workshops for teens before and after the shows, as well as a supporting program. Here are the dates you can look forward to:
- June 5: Trudering Soccer Field
- July 10: Cosimapark
- July 25: Oben Ohne Open-Air, Königsplatz
- December 4: Jugendtraff Oase, Neuhausen
