When it comes to sports, Munich is, of course, primarily known for soccer. But other sports, such as ice hockey and basketball, are also very popular and have found a modern home at the SAP Garden. Action sports like wakeboarding or BMX, on the other hand, aren’t exactly the first things that come to mind when thinking of the Bavarian capital . Yet with the Munich Mash, we’re actually home to Germany’s largest action sports event. This year, the Olympic Park will once again host a three-day action festival in a class of its own, attracting tens of thousands of visitors from all over the world.
The sports at the Munich Mash

The Mash—which stands for “Munich Action Sports Heroes”—has been around since 2014. This year, athletes will compete against each other in five disciplines across various contests. The program features BMX, wakeboarding, street dance, skateboarding, and mountain biking. Both national and international athletes will be on hand to showcase their tricks and skills. Get ready for an action-packed spectacle full of impressive stunts at Munich Mash.
The wakeboarders will showcase their runs and best-trick contests on the lower Olympic Lake, while the skateboard vert competition returns to the famous halfpipe in front of the grass steps. At Hans-Jochen-Vogel-Platz, a shared jump line awaits BMX and mountain bike riders, who will hold their finals and best-trick sessions there. Theatron will be the hub of both music and sports: Street dance takes center stage there, and the audience serves as the jury during the “Dance Your Style” battles.
Even more action at the Mash Fest
As always, this year’s Munich Mash will be accompanied by the Mash Fest, where you can get active and try your hand at various activities. Numerous cool workshops await you, where you can get on a board yourself or learn a few dance moves. With screen printing or graffiti, you can immerse yourself in urban art and let your creativity run wild. In between, you can recharge in the chill-out area or grab a bite to eat from the on-site food vendors. On Saturday night, you’ll party under the open sky at the big party—and it’s completely free!
The Munich Mash will once again run for three days this year, taking place from Friday, June 26, through Sunday, June 28. The festival is centered around Hans-Jochen-Vogel-Platz, the Theatron, and the Olympiasee. Admission to the entire Munich Mash is free, so you can look forward to a weekend-long extravaganza of action at the Olympic Park.
