We Munich residents love spending our time outdoors: whether in the mountains, by the lake, or in the city’s outdoor dining areas. Spring and summer are therefore the best seasons for us, because cultural life largely shifts outdoors. This includes not only open-airconcerts and plays , but also film screenings. The Kino am Olympiasee is the city’s largest open-air cinema and brings famous blockbusters outdoors.
More than just a movie theater

As every year, the Kino am Olympiasee offers at least one film screening daily, with movies shown in both German and their original languages. The selection ranges from current blockbusters like “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” “Michael,” and “The Astronaut” to classics such as “Mamma Mia!” or “La La Land.” Soccer fans can also look forward to public viewings of soccer matches. This includes not only the matches from this year’s World Cup, but also the DFB Cup Final and the Champions League Final. Plus, there’s free beer in the Hofbräu night beer garden.
On other evenings, you can also look forward to specials when one of the so-called Plus Events takes place. Then, in addition to your movie night, there are extra treats, such as a free Aperol or Sarti Spritz and cool parties. Dance to the hits of ABBA, Queen, and Michael Jackson at the dance parties for “Mamma Mia!”, “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and “Michael”. In addition to movies and soccer, poetry slams and stand-up comedy are also on the agenda. And on family afternoons, the fun starts as early as 3:30 PM with a children’s movie, so the little ones can enjoy the open-air cinema too.

Of course, you can also go the classic route and opt for popcorn, chips, and soft drinks. Or you can bring your own snacks and water bottles.
