Concerts

We’re kicking off the new month with music, as there are several concerts in store for you. Florence + The Machine will be gracing us with their presence on March 4 at the Olympiahalle, enchanting us with their mix of pop and folk. Three days later , Sean Paul will be making his debut at the venue, rocking the stage with classics such as “Get Busy” and “Temperature.” Those who prefer something more epic should stop by on March 14 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Orchestra and Tor will perform the soundtrack of “The Return of the King” live while the film flickers across the screen.

If you can’t get enough of live music, you should attend a candlelight concert. A string quartet will bring your favorite songs to life with classical reinterpretations. Whether it’s the biggest hits of the 90s, famous musicians like Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift, or the soundtrack of Bridgerton, no wish will remain unfulfilled. Enveloped in the glow of hundreds of candles in an atmospheric setting, unforgettable concert experiences are guaranteed.

Butterfly exhibition

The first signs of spring can be felt when visiting the tropical butterflies in the botanical garden. The colorful butterflies flutter freely around you and bring splashes of color to the dreary rest of winter. You can observe over 400 species here, from pupae to fully grown butterflies. Take advantage of the last chance to visit the animals before the exhibition closes its doors at the end of the year.
The Jury Experience

If you’re looking for an event in Munich in March that lets you not only watch, but also actively participate in the decision-making process, The Jury Experience in Munich is just the thing for you: in this immersive courtroom drama, you become a juror and find yourself in the middle of exciting cases such as a diamond robbery and a murder case. While actors present evidence and witness statements, you are asked to think critically, question moral boundaries, and ultimately deliver your final verdict.
Strong Beer Festival

It’s going to be hearty! March marks the start of the strong beer season, and you can look forward to several strong beer festivals throughout the city. The classic event is, of course, the one at Paulaner am Nockherberg. Look forward to strong beer, Bavarian cuisine, and a lively atmosphere. Thanks to the musical accompaniment, you’ll soon be standing on the beer benches singing at the top of your lungs. So grab your dirndl or lederhosen —and let the fun begin!
St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Munich’s St. Patrick’s Day is celebrating its 30th birthday! Once again this year, there will be a parade with around 60 groups and 1,500 participants marching through Munich. Among them are Highlanders, rugby players, medieval fans, and leprechauns. The musical procession will start at Münchner Freiheit and travel 2.5 kilometers to Odeonsplatz. St. Patrick will be played by Wolfgang Schramm, while Alison Moffat-McLynn and Lara O’Sullivan will serve as Grand Marshal and Parade Princess. Take advantage of this great opportunity to experience the Irish spirit in Munich.

If you’re looking for a real highlight in the heart of Munich in March, you should make a note of the Ballet of Lights dance show: with an innovative combination of classical ballet and state-of-the-art technology, the fairy tale of Cinderella is brought to life on stage in a unique light show. Talented dancers skillfully interpret the story, accompanied by famous classical compositions. The 60-minute show at the Fat Cat is suitable for young and old alike and promises an unforgettable experience.
Disney on Ice: Heroic Adventures

Experience one last spark of winter magic at Disney on Ice. Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Ariel, Moana, and other Disney heroes and heroines will be doing their rounds on the ice and showing you impressive choreography on skates. The current program, “Heroic Adventures,” tells you various exciting stories about your favorite characters. Of course, cult figures such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy will also be there. The shows take place twice a day on the respective event days.
A Day with David Bowie
The photo exhibition “A Day with David Bowie” brings you closer to the exceptional British artist. Get an insight into his visit to the Art Brut Center Gugging in 1994 and take a look behind the scenes. Austrian photographer Christine de Grancy is responsible for the photographs, which present a quieter side of the musician. You will see rarely shown photographs and get an impression of the creative process behind Bowie’s album “Outside.” The exhibition has been extended until April 12, so you still have the whole of March to visit it.
We Won’t Shut Up!

Celebrate International Women’s Day with concerts, art, and creativity! In keeping with the awakening of spring, March is also Women’s Month: The “We Won’t Shut Up!” festival will take place in Munich from March 5 to 29 and is dedicated to various women’s issues. In addition to exciting panel discussions and information stands, you can look forward to concerts, workshops, readings, film screenings, and a drag show.
