Pack your wands and scarves, because this year’s Advent season has a real highlight in store for all witches, wizards, and Muggles in the Bavarian capital. Right in the heart of the city, a winter wonderland is taking shape that’s causing a sensation worldwide. From November 28 to December 6, 2026, the magical world of Harry Potter is coming to Munich. On the popular Prater Island in the Lehel district, the streaming service HBO Max is setting up a magical experience to celebrate the upcoming premiere of the new series adaptation in style. If you don’t want to miss this spectacle, though, you’ll have to hurry. The enchanting Christmas market will only be open for exactly nine days—from the Saturday before the first Sunday of Advent until St. Nicholas Day on the second Sunday of Advent.
Here’s what awaits you at the exclusive Harry Potter Christmas market
On the roughly 500-meter-long island between the branches of the Isar River, a charming, compact Christmas market with about ten stalls is taking shape. Despite its modest size, the area promises plenty of atmosphere, all in the visual style of the new series “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” You can look forward to specially designed photo opportunities against cinematic backdrops, interactive attractions for both children and adults, and themed treats inspired by the wizarding world. Whether the stalls will offer steaming butterbeer or classic mulled wine remains a surprise the organizer is keeping under wraps for now. One thing is certain, however: there will be plenty of opportunities for enchanting souvenir photos and a good dose of nostalgia.
Getting in the mood for the new series: All the key info for your visit

The backdrop for this temporary magical island is the official premiere of the new Harry Potter series, which launches on HBO Max on December 25, 2026. In the lead roles, you’ll see the new generation of wizard apprentices, with Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
If you’re planning a trip to Prater Island, we recommend taking public transportation. Parking spots will be extremely scarce on-site. While there’s still some time before the curtain rises on this magical adventure, the anticipation is already building.
