This year, there are many closures to mourn in Munich, such as the end of Blitz, DNA, or the Depot im Tal. The post office at Harras also had to join this list and closed its doors despite protests. But where one business closes, space opens up for a new one. In just a few weeks, a new Denns organic market will open in the historic building where the post office used to be.
Despite Protests: Post Office Had to Close

The announcement of the Postbank’s closure at Harras had met with discontent in the neighborhood. Both the Sendling District Committee and the Senior Citizens’ Council opposed the decision, but to no avail. They advocated for the preservation of community-oriented services, such as those the Postbank had provided. For 100 years, a post office had been located in the building, which is now a designated historic landmark. But all the protests were in vain; the post office had to close.
Instead, a Denns organic market will open in October at number 2. “We’re excited to soon open a new Denns organic market in Munich’s Harras neighborhood in the Untersendling district,” said the chain’s press spokesperson, Daniela Wolf. Efforts are being made to preserve the character of the historic building while at the same time providing a modern shopping experience in a pleasant atmosphere. How this will play out in practice remains to be seen at the grand opening.
Date set for the grand opening of the Denns organic market
On Thursday, October 22, the big day will finally arrive, and the Denns organic market will celebrate its grand opening at Harras. A full 350 m² and around 6,000 products will be available for you to browse and shop. In addition to organic foods, there will also be a small selection of natural cosmetics available for purchase. Furthermore, there will be a bistro with a seating area.
With its full product range, Denns will compete with Edeka, which is also located at Harras. Edeka carries products from Alnatura, among others, and thus also operates in part in the organic segment. Currently, however, the store is undergoing renovations and will not be available to local customers again until December.
📅 Date: Grand opening on Thursday, October 22, 2026
