There are several beautiful quarry lakes in the immediate vicinity of Munich where you can relax on hot summer days. The recreational area around Langwieder See and Lußsee is especially popular, but there are other great places to swim. In Unerföhring, Feringasee—the largest lake in the immediate vicinity of Munich—awaits you. The lake is particularly popular with windsurfers, but all other swimmers will also find plenty to enjoy here.
A swimming paradise for every taste
Lake Feringa has been around since the 1970s and has quickly become a summer swimming hotspot. With a water surface area of 32 hectares, it is the largest swimming lake in the immediate vicinity of Munich. Swimmers can be found on the southern shore, while water sports enthusiasts gather on the northern shore.
The nudist area is located on the distinctive peninsula, which on warm days can easily attract up to 6,000 nude swimmers. There’s a dedicated kiosk and restroom facilities here, so you’ll be well taken care of. If, on the other hand, you’d rather stay clothed, make yourself comfortable on the large sunbathing lawn. You’ll get that real beach vibe on the east shore, where a sandy beach awaits you.
Sports at Feringasee
The Unterföhring Windsurfing Club is one of the oldest in Germany and introduces you to the sport on Lake Feringa. While you’re only on your board at the Eisbach Wave or O2 Surftown, here you can try windsurfing. There’s a designated area in the water for this purpose where swimming is prohibited. That way, no one will get in your way, and you can enjoy your sport in peace.
If you want to burn off some energy on land, be sure to pack your volleyball. Two beach volleyball courts are waiting for you to take them on. Fishing is also permitted in Lake Feringa. For refreshments by the water, there are kiosks as well as a pub with a beer garden that serves Bavarian delicacies. Or you can simply bring your own picnic and enjoy it by the water.
