Temperatures are climbing back above 30°C, and summer is gradually making its way to Munich. If you’re looking to cool off in the sunny weather without having to take an ice bath, the Langwieder Seenplatte is the place for you. In this local recreation area , three swimming lakes await you, including Lußsee—the cleanest in all of Munich. Here you can swim in pleasantly warm water and truly unwind.
The Unknown Brother

Lußsee was created in the 1990s to complement the existing bodies of water, Langwieder See and Birkensee, in Aubing-Lochhausen. It lies in the center of the ensemble and completes the Langwieder Lake District. Although it lies right next to Langwieder See, it is far less well-known than its brother—and consequently less frequented.
Lußsee stands out above all for its high water quality. It consistently receives the rating “excellent. “ It is considered Munich’s cleanest lake and, at 16 meters, is the deepest in the area. The biotopes to the south and east ensure that the water remains beautifully clean and clear. In the north and west, on the other hand, you have plenty of space to spread out for your day of swimming. With temperatures ranging from 22 to 24°C, the water is significantly warmer and more pleasant than in the Isar, for example.
Leisure Activities Around Lußsee
Thanks to its shallow entry points, Lußsee is not only great for swimming but also for younger children to splash around. There are also two playgrounds where the little ones can let off steam. You can grab fries and drinks at the kiosk or visit the nearby beer garden at Langwieder See. If you’d rather prepare your own food, use one of the designated barbecue areas.
On the northwestern shore, where the kiosk is also located, Lußsee features a promenade that invites you to take a stroll. If you’re looking for more exercise, head to one of the beach volleyball courts or the soccer field. Or take a detour to the mini-golf course at Langwieder See. You can reach Lußsee by car, bike, or public transportation. When outdoor temperatures reach 24°C or higher, the “Badebus” runs every 20 minutes from the Lochhausen train station and takes you to the lake district.
