Who says you can only munch on nachos and popcorn while watching a movie? That’s what Marisa and Clara from Project C. thought, too, and together with Neo Kinos, they launched Craft Cinema Nights. The format debuted in the fall of 2024 at the Monopol Kino in Schwabing and has been a regular feature of the program ever since. The next creative cinema night is coming up soon and invites you to join in and exchange ideas.
Unusual cinema formats

The Monopol is part of the Neo Kinos, which also includes the Maxim, the Rio Filmpalast, the Arena Filmtheater, and the Lichtspielhaus in Fürstenfeldbruck. The cinemas are all characterized by a carefully curated program, where you can see the latest blockbusters as well as timeless classics, indie productions, and arthouse films, mostly in their original language. Not least because of this, the Monopol is also part of the European Film Awards season.
Special formats outside the series are not uncommon: just this year, the Arena Filmtheater launched the new dating format “Match Me if You Can,” where you fill out a questionnaire and then go on a blind date with another cinema-goer . It fits seamlessly into the series of other special cinema events, such as the Craft Cinema Nights at the Monopol.
How Craft Cinema Nights work
To attend Craft Cinema Nights, all you need is a creative hobby and a ticket for the event. Whether you crochet, knit, or embroider— as long as it can be done in a cinema seat, any form of handicraft is welcome. During the screening, the lights in the auditorium are dimmed slightly so that you can work in a relaxed atmosphere. Before and after the film, you’ll have a little time to linger in the cinema and chat with the other visitors. This way, you can make new acquaintances and maybe even friends through your hobby.
The next Craft Cinema Night will take place on Monday, February 23, at 7:45 p.m. The film “He’s Just Not That Into You” will be shown in its original language, starring Ben Affleck, Scarlett Johansson, Drew Barrymore, and Jennifer Aniston. A ticket costs €19 and includes admission and a welcome drink. So grab your knitting needles and wool and head to the cinema!
