Valentine’s Day is not far off and while couples are already thinking about how they can spend the day of love together on a date in Munich, others are still missing the right counterpart. There is still time to change that and one Munich cinema has set itself the task of doing just that. A new blind dating format will soon be launched here, bringing unknown people together for a movie night.
Small but mighty: the Arena Filmtheater in Glockenbach

The Arena Filmtheater has been around since 1912 and is a charming little cinema in the heart of the lively Glockenbach district. The two auditoriums offer space for 40 and 50 people respectively, keeping the number of visitors manageable and creating an intimate atmosphere with a living room feel. The cinema with its 1920s flair combines modernity with nostalgia and offers you an alternative film experience to the big movie theaters.
As part of the neo-cinemas, which also include the Monopol in Schwabing, for example, you will find a colorful mix of arthouse, indie productions and well-known blockbusters in the program. This makes the Arena a good alternative to the nearby movie theater at Sendlinger Tor, whose exact future remains uncertain.
New format: Match Me If You Can
The Arena Filmtheater has come up with something very special for the start of 2026 to make your visit to the cinema more exciting. The new dating format “Macht Me If You Can” offers you the opportunity to go on a blind date and meet new people. The first date is on January 22 at 7:30 p.m. and the movie “Eternity” will be shown, which, appropriately enough, is about a love triangle.
To take part, you have to fill out a questionnaire online in advance on the Neo Kinos website, in which you provide some formal information, such as your age and what you are looking for. Then you have to answer further questions, e.g. what your favorite film is at the moment, who would embody you in your biography and what your absolute no-gos are. You then send in the questionnaire and you can then purchase your ticket. With this ticket, you will appear at the Arena Filmtheater on the date in question, where you will meet your match. You can chat and get to know each other over a free drink before watching the movie together.
If you are not interested in dating, you can also indicate in the questionnaire that you are only interested in friendships. In any case, the format is an ideal way to meet new people and enjoy a great movie at the same time. And in the classic way, in real life, without dating apps.
