Munich techno fans have had to be very resilient lately: Not only did Blitz celebrate its final party on Museum Island in July, but DNA also announced its closure in September. Yet despite all these negative developments, a new star has risen in the nightlife scene of the city on the Isar . The XOLO on Leopoldstraße aims to breathe new life into Schwabing’s nightlife and, in addition to its central location, also stands out for its outdoor space.
Indoors and outdoors to electronic beats
XOLO is located at 13 Leopoldstraße, in the basement of the Frida restaurant. In fact, the two venues are part of the same establishment, though the club pursues its own independent concept and aims to do its own thing. Furthermore, XOLO is not just a basement disco— it also features an outdoor area. On Fridays and Saturdays, you can party on the terrace starting at 7 p.m. and inside starting at 10 p.m. On Vinyl Sundays, there’s vinyl music on the terrace from 3 to 8 p.m.
This outdoor area makes XOLO particularly attractive now that summer is here and also offers the option to start partying early when there’s less of a need for a weekend of heavy drinking. Nevertheless, the owners would like to bring back a bit of the spirit of 1980s Schwabing , when Leopoldstraße was a major nightlife hub that even featured a “Haifischdisco”! The waterfall on the terrace also dates back to the ’80s; it’s set to be put back into operation soon and will give the whole place an even cooler vibe. Musically, the focus is mainly on techno and house, though XOLO is still figuring out its exact sound. In any case, it’s definitely electronic.
XOLO as a Space for Art and Events
Currently, XOLO is primarily a nightclub, but in the future it aims to be more than that. Artists can book the club to present their work and discuss it here. With its gallery-style walls, XOLO is also well-suited for pop-ups or artist talks . If, on the other hand, you’re still looking for a venue for a party, the space is also available to you. Catering is provided by Frida, located on the floor above, which serves Mexican cuisine and other South American dishes.
