The Bavarian festival summer brings you a wealth of different genres, ranging from techno and house to metal and rock, all the way to hip-hop and rap. Reggae fans, however, had to go without for a decade after the Chiemsee Reggae Summer was discontinued following 2016. But now the legendary festival is back, and you can finally celebrate your favorite genre of music outdoors again. It’s happening at the end of June, and there are still a few remaining tickets available.
The Temporary End
In the mid-1990s, the Chiemsee Reggae Summer made its debut and quickly evolved from a one-day festival into a multi-day event. Later, Chiemsee Rocks was added, taking place two days before the Reggae Summer. In 2014, organizers decided to merge both events into the five-day Chiemsee Summer. As part of this change, the mix of genres was expanded to include techno and EDM, while reggae simultaneously lost its prominence. At the last edition of Chiemsee Summer in 2017, there were practically no reggae artists in the lineup. The following year, the festival was put on hiatus. There hasn’t been a Chiemsee Summer since then.
Eventually, however, the organizers returned to their roots and decided to bring the Chiemsee Reggae Summer back to life. Last year , it was announced that the festival would take place again in 2026, this time once more dedicated entirely to reggae music. For three days this coming weekend, you can enjoy the music and the vibes under the open sky as the CRS celebrates its comeback with you.
Quality over quantity
From Friday, June 26, through Sunday, June 28, you’ll find pure reggae, ska, and dancehall in Übersee on Lake Chiemsee. This time, the organizers are deliberately keeping the festival intimate, with a maximum of 10,000 visitors per day. Thirty acts will perform for you at the Chiemsee Reggae Summer, including Materia, Spice, and Burning Spear. Capleton was actually among the headliners, but he had to cancel at the last minute. Instead, Mr. Vegas is stepping in at short notice.
The easiest way to reach the festival grounds is by train. There are hourly connections to Übersee from both Munich and Salzburg, which don’t cost extra thanks to the Deutschlandticket. Shuttle buses will take you from the train station to the festival grounds. The buses will also take you for free to the beach at Lake Chiemsee, where you can cool off. Admission is included in the ticket price, as is the parking fee for cars if you plan to drive. If you don’t have tickets yet, day passes and remaining tickets for the Almdorado are still available.
