BenediktbeuernMonastery

Benediktbeuern Monastery is a magnificent baroque monastery complex and a former Benedictine abbey. Stroll through the monastery garden and visit the basilica – guided tours are also available. Experts believe that the former building was constructed as early as the 8th century. However, it was only between 1669 and 1679 that the current baroque form of the monastery complex was created. This historic building is well worth a visit – Alpine views included!

Augsburg

You can be in Augsburg in less than an hour by regional train. Perfect for a day trip if you’ve never seen this famous Bavarian city before! The historic old town with its Fugger houses and town hall contains some of the oldest buildings in Germany. Augsburg is also known for the Augsburger Puppenkiste and the cathedral.

Freilassing (near Salzburg)

And you can even get to Austria (virtually) for free with the Deutschlandticket. The ticket is not valid for international travel, but you can still get right up to the border. The town of Freilassing is just outside Salzburg, so you can get off here and then continue your journey to the city. But Freilassing itself also offers a railroad museum worth seeing with the Lokwelt and numerous opportunities for local recreation along the Saalach.

Regensburg

Regensburg has a UNESCO World Heritage old town with medieval flair. In addition to stone bridges, you can visit the famous St. Peter’s Cathedral or the Porta Praetoria. Numerous cafés invite you to linger, as does the bank of the Danube where you can relax. Regensburg is worth a visit!

Freising

Freising is a traditional town north of Munich, known for its imposing Domberg with the Romanesque-Gothic St. Mary’s Cathedral and the oldest brewery in the world, Weihenstephan. The historic old town with its alleyways, cafés and small stores is perfect for a stroll. And if that’s not enough, you can also relax in perfect idyllic surroundings: Freising is located directly on the Isar.

Nuremberg

Nuremberg impresses with its medieval old town, which is dominated by the mighty Imperial Castle, and is famous for sights such as the Albrecht Dürer House and numerous museums. The city has a rich history, ranging from the time of the Imperial Diet to the Nuremberg Trials. Visit the numerous museums and see for yourself! Today, Nuremberg is also known for its Christmas market and diverse gastronomy.

Berchtesgaden

Bavaria is world-famous for this picturesque place and even though it is no longer an insider tip, it is definitely worth a visit. Berchtesgaden is a must-see! You can travel to the town for free with the Deutschlandticket. From there, you are right in the countryside: the Königssee lake is just around the corner and the beautiful national park is perfect for hiking. In just a few hours, you’ll be in the middle of the most photogenic nature and the Alps.
