When the cold season sets in and you’re longing for a real winter fairy tale, the perfect destination for the whole family awaits you south of Munich. The world-famous winter sports hotspot Garmisch-Partenkirchen is located about 90 kilometers from Munich on the border with Austria. The ski resort previously hosted the 1936 Winter Olympics and is situated directly at the foot of the 2,962-meter-high Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain. Right here, nestled between striking Alpine peaks and the Wetterstein Mountains, the popular “Winter im Park” event returns. From November 20, 2026, through January 5, 2027, following last year’s success, the idyllic Michael-Ende-Kurpark will once again be transformed into a festively illuminated setting that invites you to take a leisurely stroll, go ice skating, and simply enjoy the atmosphere.
Ice skating, light installations, and an atmospheric entertainment program at “Winter im Park”

The event in the spa park offers the perfect winter experience for every taste. Young and old alike can take to the sparkling ice rink. Meanwhile, the impressive light art transforms the snow-covered landscape into an atmospheric backdrop. As soon as dusk falls, a varied evening program featuring local music groups and artists ensures top-notch entertainment. Warm up with a hot mug of mulled wine, spend time with friends and family, or explore the traditional Christmas market together. The alpine winter atmosphere makes this outing a wonderful getaway.
A winter getaway to Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Admission to and visits of “Winter im Park” are free daily. The market and park grounds are typically open from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the last drinks served at 9:00 p.m. and the spa park closing at 9:30 p.m. On Christmas Eve, December 24, the grounds are open from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on New Year’s Eve from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. If you want to round off your winter day in style, be sure to take a stroll through the historic Partenkirchen district.
