Munich’s cultural calendar is packed with festivals: whether music, film, or literature, whether open-air or indoor, you can look forward to numerous events with diverse programs all year round. Despite this wealth of events, the SZ is taking it up a notch this year and launching its own festival for the first time. This weekend, you can look forward to Mindpop, a new two-day event unlike anything Munich has seen before.
Journalism Up Close
Mindpop describes itself as a “festival for smart ideas” and aims to bring journalism to life. It wants to bring you closer to the stories and people behind the news and provide space for your own thoughts, which is often lacking in everyday life. The range of topics spans from politics and society to culture.
On a total of three stages, you’ll hear exciting talks, interviews, and live podcasts. The lineup includes journalists, artists, scientists, and personalities such as Carlo Sommer, Teresa Reichl, Gizem Çelik, and Maria Clara Groppler.
Here’s how you can join Mindpop

The new SZ Festival takes place on Friday, May 8, and Saturday, May 9, at the Bavaria Studios in Grünwald. Your ticket grants you access to all events on all stages, including the after-party on Friday evening with Queen Lizzy and Fancy Footwork on the decks. A welcome drink is also included. Additionally, you’ll receive an SZ Weekender and a three-month SZ Plus Basic subscription.
You can choose between day tickets and festival passes for the entire weekend. Those of you who already have an SZ subscription receive a discount on admission. Additionally, there are discounts for students, seniors aged 65 and older, and people with disabilities. Tickets are available directly through the SZ website.
