Four months of commuting via the SEV—we made it! The first phase of closures at the Poccistraße and Goetheplatz stations has been successfully completed, and just in time for the start of Oktoberfest , the MVG resumed regular service. Unfortunately, though, this won’t last long, as the second phase of construction is set to begin soon. This phase, however, will be handled a bit differently and promises at least some relief compared to the summer.
Here’s what to expect during the second phase of construction

After four months of complete closure , the subway stations at Poccistraße and Geotheplatz reopened on September 19 to help spread out the crowds heading to the Wiesn. But with the end of Oktoberfest, regular subway service will also come to a halt. On Monday, October 5, the second phase of construction begins, and restrictions will be in place once again. This shouldn’t affect commuters among you quite as much, though, as there are some differences from the first phase of closures.
This time, there is no full closure of the line. This makes it possible to operate the line on a single track and to run a shuttle train on the surface in addition to the SEV. The train runs between Implerstraße and Goetheplatz and travels significantly faster than the buses, which are subject to traffic congestion on Lindwurmstraße. Furthermore, the U6 already departs from Goetheplatz, so you don’t have to go all the way to Sendlinger Tor to catch the subway. This is a huge relief, especially for people who live within walking distance of Goetheplatz. The U3, on the other hand, only runs from Sendlinger Tor.
The second construction phase will also be significantly shorter, lasting only until November 27. Trains will then run on a regular schedule again over the winter, before the third construction phase begins on April 12, 2027. This phase is expected to last about three and a half months and will likely involve a complete closure of both stations.
Here’s a summary of the information:
- The second phase of construction runs from Monday, October 5, through Friday, November 27.
- The SEV continues to run as usual between Implerstraße–Sendlinger Tor and Implerstraße–HBF
- In addition, a shuttle train is running between Implerstraße and Goetheplatz
- The U6 is already running from Goetheplatz, while the U3 will start running from Sendlinger Tor
Poccistraße and Goetheplatz: Here’s what’s been accomplished so far

Even though the construction work is far from complete, the MVG has already made significant progress at both stations. At Poccistraße, the remediation of hazardous materials and the structural work on the service rooms were successfully completed. In addition, there were extensive electrical upgrades and large-scale painting work. Furthermore, the structural integrity was reinforced and fire safety measures were improved.
At the Goetheplatz station, work focused on renovating walls and ceilings, as well as—in particular— repairing the reinforced concrete support structure. To do this, the concrete surface was extensively stripped using high-pressure water jets, the underlying rusted steel framework was repaired, and the area was finally recoated. Anyone who has gotten on or off at either of these stations in recent days will have noticed the changes to the ceilings and walls in particular . Enjoy the last few days of regular service before the second phase of construction begins and you’ll need to be patient again when commuting. Or, alternatively, switch to biking.
