Subway riders among you will need to be patient over the next few months: After repeated closures and service restrictions on the U3 and U6 lines in recent years due to construction work on the route, the next major project is now underway. The stations at Poccistraße and Goetheplatz urgently need to be renovated, which will require full closures lasting several months.
Renovation in three phases

After commuters already had to put up with disruptions to Munich’s public transit system on several individual days in February and March due to the MVG strikes, the next hurdle is already looming. The subway stations at Poccistraße and Goetheplatz are showing their age and require major renovation. To carry this out, closing the stations is unavoidable.
Overall, construction work is scheduled to take place in three phases, during which service will be either completely suspended or only partially available. From May 18 to September 18, 2026, the first phase will involve a full closure, meaning no trains will stop at these stations. The subway stations will reopen for Oktoberfest before the second phase begins on October 5 . During this phase, there will be at least single-track service until November 27. Construction work will then pause for the winter, so you won’t have to hop on a bike in the cold. The third and final phase, during which there will be another full closure, will run from April 12 to August 1, 2027.
Replacement bus service

To ensure you can still get from A to B, the MVG is setting up a special service (SEV) starting from Implerstraße during this time, which will take you to Sendlinger Tor via Poccistraße and Goetheplatz every two minutes . In addition, there will also be a bus taking you directly to the main station. This bus runs every 5 minutes, so you’ll never have to wait too long for a connection. Due to the replacement buses, the expansion of the bike path on Lindwurmstraße has been postponed until 2027.
Here is an overview of the most important information:
