Bahnwärter Thiel is not only a popular techno club, but has also long been an established cultural project that offers space for artists. Between and in the graffiti-decorated containers and railroad carriages you will find studios, restaurants and, above all, space for all kinds of events. Even in the run-up to Christmas, the Bahni won’t let you down and offers an alternative to the usual Munich Christmas markets with its winter festival “Mondscheinexpress”, where you can escape the crowds.
Delicacies, handmade goods and works of art
A visit to the Mondscheinexpress is worth it for the unusual location alone. But the offers on site are also impressive and entice visitors with both culinary delicacies and beautiful Christmas gifts. You can buy handmade goods such as jewelry, greeting cards or even card games at the numerous stalls. Find new pictures or prints for your living room, buy hand-knitted handbags or new magnets for your fridge. You ‘ re sure to find what you’re looking for in the colorful selection and can give your loved ones a treat.
Hopefully you’ve brought along something to eat so you can try your way through the various restaurants and stalls. How about a pizza from Nino’s or cheese spaetzle from the spaetzle box, for example? La Favela, where you can sit down in an old, converted subway car, is a cozy place. Those with a sweet tooth should stop by Floriflavors and try the Kaiserschmarrn, the pancake bowl or the vegan rice pudding. In addition to mulled wine, you can also enjoy hot cocktails, homemade tea and Feuerzangebowle at Orbit.

In the Orbit, you will not only be served flaming drinks, but you can also dance to changing DJ sets. If techno and EDM aren’t your thing, check out the concerts that take place every day instead, which you can listen to for free. There is also something for children with theater performances and storytelling sessions. In addition to the Moonlight Express, the regular Bahnwärter Thiel program also takes place, so you can also enjoy (club) culture outside of the festival.
Last but not least, you should make a detour to the open studios. At Sarriath, you can have a souvenir of your visit to the Moonlight Express engraved under your skin on the tattoo train or, alternatively, browse through the range of jewelry and clothing on offer in the streetcar. The Craftbox and Magdalena Julia Powalski are also open for you and look forward to your visit.
