With the arrival of summer, open-air events are making a comeback in the city, and there’s practically nothing you can’t experience outdoors. This naturally includes movie nights, as open-air cinemas return to Munich. An annual highlight is the Kinoliebe Summer Festival, which transforms Königsplatz into a movie theater. Here, you’ll not only get to see great movies but also enjoy a wide variety of other activities.
From Movies to Comedy

From July 9 to 19, Kinoliebe invites you to experience not only cinematic highlights at Königsplatz but also a vibrant festival with a diverse program off the screen. Every day from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., Happy Family offers free activities for families, which you can optionally support with a drink pass. You can do crafts, play games, and get your face painted. There are also great kids’ movies to watch, such as *Pumuckl*, *Frozen*, and *Inside Out*. At 3 p.m., the Wine Festival kicks off simultaneously; it takes place daily from July 9 through 11 and invites you to wine tastings and romantic date nights.
Other highlights of the Kinoliebe program include interactive yoga sessions, acrobatics to marvel at, live podcasts, talks, and even stand-up comedy. There will also be food trucks on site serving dishes from around the world. And, of course, you’ll get to see several movies every day. Kinoliebe kicks things off in cooperation with the Filmfest, screening the new comedy *Ein Münchner im Himmel*. In the days that follow, you can look forward to *Michael*, *The Devil Wears Prada 2*, *Rocketman*, and many other current blockbusters as well as old classics. To wrap things up on July 19, soccer fans among you are in for a special treat when the Men’s World Cup final is shown live on the big screen during the public viewing event.
