June finally marks the start of the open-air cinema season in Munich once again. In addition to the cinema at the Olympiasee, the Seebühne in Westpark is, as always, a popular destination for enjoying national and international films under the open sky. This year, you can once again look forward to an extensive program with plenty of variety. There’s also a wide range of culinary offerings, so you’ll want for nothing.
Major blockbusters and true hidden gems

The Mond und Sterne cinema has been held in Westpark since 1995 and has since become an integral part of Munich’s summer. With its location right on the lake in Westpark, you can spend cozy evenings here under the stars. From the steps of the amphitheater, you’ll not only look out at the screen but also at the surface of the lake, which sparkles with the reflection of the lights. This atmosphere alone makes a visit to the Mond & Sterne Cinema worthwhile, but of course the open-air cinema also has plenty of great films in store.
Whether it’s a national production or an international hit, a new release or a timeless classic, there’s truly something for everyone here. In addition to major blockbusters like “Mamma Mia!”, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” and “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” you’ll also get to see true hidden gems like “Therapy for Vikings” and “I Swear.” From over 300 films, the Mond & Sterne cinema has curated a selection for you that leaves nothing to be desired. On select evenings, you can also look forward to special guests, such as Michael Bully Herbig for “Kanu des Manitu” or Wiebke Lühmann for “Same Sun.”
All info about the Mond & Sterne Cinema

The Mond & Sterne Cinema runs this year from June 4 through early September and will also host this year’s Filmfest from June 28 to July 5. Tickets for regular screenings cost €9.50 and can be purchased online in advance. Since you’ll be sitting on natural stone in the amphitheater, we recommend bringing seat cushions and sleeping pads, though you can also rent chairs on-site. Additionally, it gets chilly on the lake stage after dark, so don’t forget to bring appropriate clothing and blankets . Screenings take place in all weather conditions, including on rainy days.
When it comes to food and drinks, the beer garden policy applies, so you’re welcome to bring your own snacks, but not your own beverages. Of course, you can purchase refreshments on-site, and there’s plenty of food available as well, such as Vietnamese dishes, pinsa, or crêpes. Popcorn, chips, and nachos are also a must, of course. So nothing stands in the way of a perfect movie night!
