As soon as summer returns to Munich, the city’s rooftops once again transform into culinary hotspots where you can enjoy food and drinks with a view. Throughout Munich, you’ll find numerous rooftop terraces from which you can view the city on the Isar from every angle. If you prefer a view of the city center, head up to the roof of the Königshof, where you’ll find Greta Oto. Located directly above Karlsplatz, this spot serves Latin American cuisine from the Amazon region, making your visit a unique culinary experience.
A touch of luxury

The Königshof is a five-star hotel and part of the Marriott Group’s “Luxury Collection.” After the previous building was demolished, it reopened in 2024 and has since featured a beautiful rooftop terrace, considered one of its highlights. It’s open not only to hotel guests but also to the general public, so you can get a taste of that luxury yourself if you stop by. The terrace is operated by the hotel’s own restaurant, Greta Oto, which is named after a South American butterfly.
This upscale restaurant treats you to dishes from the Amazon region that will delight your palate. From ceviche and taquitos to delicious meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes, you’ll embark on a journey through Latin America. Peruvian chef Michael Cánepa places great emphasis on fresh ingredients. His concept is a success: Greta Oto has already expanded to Hamburg and Frankfurt.
High above Stachus
Greta Oto may not be Munich’s highest rooftop terrace, but it still takes you a full nine stories up. From here, you’ll have a direct view of Stachus and the Karlstor, where you can watch the colorful hustle and bustle. You can also spot the two towers of the Frauenkirche and the New Town Hall from here. On a clear day, you can even see the Alps.
If you’d like to grab a bite to eat, you can choose from a seasonal menu featuring dishes that reflect the current season. Try your way through ceviche, tostadas, and guacamole, and order sweet churros or fruity sorbet for dessert. The drinks are fruity too, like the Tipsy Pineapple and the Lychee Bomb. So if you want to enjoy the sunset on a rooftop terrace in a sophisticated atmosphere with great drinks, then Greta Oto is the perfect spot for you.
