Advent calendars are a wonderful thing: every day they bring us a little joy and sweeten the pre-Christmas season. Together with the Christmas markets in Munich and the surrounding area, they make Advent a magical time. This small town northwest of Munich probably thought so too and promptly combined its Christmas market with an Advent calendar.
(No) ordinary Christmas market
The Christmas market has been taking place in the heart of Dachau for 35 years. The beautiful old town with its festively decorated streets invites you to stroll and linger. You can buy delicacies and drinks and handicrafts at numerous stalls. Fortify yourself with lard bread, Nuremberg rolls and steamed dumplings and wash it all down with a mulled wine or a Feuerzangenbowle. If you prefer something more unusual, try the Bavarian whiskey punch, which you can also get at the Seeadvent in Bad Wiessee. Afterwards, you can stock up on the last Christmas presents at the various craft and nativity scene stalls.
And don’t miss the varied program. All kinds of musical performances await you, be it from the Dachau boys’ band, the symphonic wind orchestra or the A Capella Company. But there will also be plenty on offer apart from the classic German musical interludes. Miriam, for example, will delight you with her flamenco and castanet skills and bring Spanish flair to the Bavarian district town. Fans of rock and pop music will also get their money’s worth here. For children, there is the long night with stories and a Christmas tour. This makes a visit to the Dachau Christmas market an experience for young and old alike.

The Advent calendar at the Dachau Christmas market measures 300 square meters, making it the largest in the state. Every day, a door is opened to reveal what is hidden behind it. To win, you have to buy tickets in advance. One ticket costs €1.50 and gives you double the chance of winning. The proceeds from the raffle tickets will be donated to charity.
You can buy tickets at the sales stand to the left of the entrance to the town hall. At 7 p.m., the door for that day will be opened at the town hall, the prize will be revealed and the lucky winner will be drawn. So if your Christmas wish didn’t work out at the Geminids, take a trip to the Dachau Christmas market instead and try your luck there.
