If you’re looking for a change of pace in Bavaria in the run-up to Christmas, you can ‘t complain about a lack of things to do. If you feel like it, you can visit a different Christmas market every day. But what’s better than one Christmas market a day? Exactly, three Christmas markets! Friends of Advent get their money’s worth at Lake Tegernsee, where they can visit three markets in just one day. So if your motto is “more is more”, you’ve come to the right place.
A boat trip is fun

While the Lindau Harbour Christmas Ship allows you to visit the Bregenz market, the Tegernsee shuttle ship allows you to visit three Advent markets at once. On market days, the boats sail across the lake clockwise every half hour between 2 pm and 7 pm. They travel to Tegernsee, Rottach and Bad Wiessee from the east of the lake via the south to the west. The boat trips are ideal for taking a break between visits to the market, enjoying the view across the lake and watching the glittering lights on the surface of the water after dark.
The day ticket for the shuttle boat costs €17, with the Tegernsee Card only €8.50. This ticket is also valid for the buses on the ring line, which travel to the same places as the shuttle boat. If you miss the boat or have had enough of the trip across the lake, you can easily change to the buses. Tickets for the shuttle boat can only be purchased via tegernsee.bayern and must be booked in advance. This saves you stress and time on the day of departure.
The markets you can reach with the shuttle boat

The Rottacher Advent takes place in the south of Lake Tegernsee, which impresses with its location around the pavilion in the spa gardens. In addition to the typical stalls and delicacies, there are also musical performances and a children’s program. Crafting and face painting will delight the little ones. On the second weekend of Advent, they can also look forward to a visit from St. Nicholas and the puppet theater.
The Seeadvent Bad Wiessee is located on the eastern shore directly on the promenade to Lake Tegernsee. Around 20 exhibitors offer their wares for sale, including special treasures such as Bavarian whiskey punch. Perchten runs and elaborate ice sculptures also await you here. You can relax on a romantic carriage ride along the lake.
Last but not least, the Christmas castle market in Tegernsee awaits you in the west. Around 30 stalls form a magical village of huts on Schlossplatz, including an alpine pasture, through which you can take a leisurely stroll. The castle church forms an impressive backdrop that adds to the magical atmosphere. Sample the delicacies, buy Christmas presents and listen to the music of regional artists.
How to plan your visit

All three Christmas markets are open on Saturdays and Sundays on all Advent weekends and can be reached by shuttle boat. As they tend to be smaller markets, you can easily visit them in one day without running out of time. Of course, you can also visit just one or two of the Christmas markets.
The best way to get from Munich is to take the train to Tegernsee and get on the boat there. For example, you could start with the Mart in Rottach, travel on to Bad Wiessee and then finish with the Advent magic in Tegernsee before taking the train back. Alternatively, you can travel by car, which gives you more flexibility when choosing your starting point.
