If you want good coffee, you’re spoiled for choice in Munich. But in only a few cafés will you find not only the caffeine kick you need, but also real world stars! Café Jasmin is more than just a café – it’s a living history lesson. Here you can find out why you should definitely pay it a visit.
Travel through time in a café with retro glamor
Café Jasmin is located in the middle of Maxvorstadt (Steinheilstraße/corner of Augustenstraße), in the heart of Munich’s art district. Its proximity to the city’s most beautiful museums reinforces its reputation as a meeting place for all art lovers.
The café is so special because it has an almost original interior from 1955 ! This means that almost everything you’ll find there dates back to when it first opened in 1953. In fact, the entire interior islisted as a historical monument by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments. Here you can travel back in time and dine in 50s style.
The lime green plush armchairs and sofa benches, frilly curtains, golden metal wallpaper and mirrored walls are all in keeping with the era. It’s the perfect “granny café”, where you’ll fall out of step with the times, while still retaining its coziness – or perhaps because of it.
Mick Jagger’s “insider tip” in Munich
Café Jasmin is not only popular with Munich locals. It is unofficially known as rock icon Mick Jagger’s “insider tip” and his favorite place to hang out when he is in Munich. What makes the café so special for him, we don’t know directly. But the authentic character of this listed building will certainly play a role.
So who knows – maybe you’ll bump into a real world star at the next table over your coffee. Café Jasmin is definitely worth trying out. Everything is homemade here! During the day, you can meet here to work or read the newspaper, while in the evening the café transforms into a popular, lively meeting place for an after-work drink.
