An authentic Advent spectacle

The medieval market in Munich is not just a nostalgic trip back to a time we never experienced, but claims to be authentic. There are said to have been Advent markets in Munich as early as 1320 and the medieval market on Wittelsbacherplatz attempts to recreate such market events. As part of this, it also makes direct historical references to the city of Munich, both in its design and its program.
You are greeted directly at the entrance by a city guard with the Münchner Kindl emblazoned on its sign. This is modeled on a Munich Tartsche from 1436, which you can admire in the original at the City Museum. It is the oldest exhibit in the museum. On the Glühweinkelchen is the Munich city seal from 1323 and a replica of the original Münchner Kindl, which actually represents a monk, overlooks the market. You can discover these and other authentic references at the medieval market.

The medieval market not only offers the usual Christmas market delicacies, but also entices visitors with offers that are rarely available. In addition to Schupfnudeln and Baumstriezel, you can also enjoy suckling pig and barbarian skewers with bread on a stick. Vegans are also catered for with a selection of stews. When it comes to drinks, you can expect not only mulled wine, but also mead and organic Feuerzangenbowle.
The traders offer all kinds of goods, from jewelry and soaps to drinking horns, armaments, knives and swords. If you are looking for a special Christmas present, you will definitely find it here. How about a fairy or dragon mug for your loved ones, for example? In future, you can also write your letters with a quill pen and seal the envelopes with your own seal. Alternatively, you can leave this to the calligraphy and sealing wax artisans at the market, who will create beautiful personalized mementos for you. At the weekends, you also have the opportunity to visit the sword smithy with an anvil.
A medieval supporting program
