When you hear of a Christmas market with circus tents in Munich, you probably inevitably think of the Tollwood Winter Festival on the Theresienwiese. But there is another market that fits this description and shares another similarity with the festival. It pitches its tents exactly where Tollwood takes place in summer. Nevertheless, the Christmas market has its very own charm and exudes a cozy, romantic atmosphere like no other in Munich.
Welcome to the fairytale bazaar

If you make the mistake of changing from the subway to the bus at Petuelring and taking it to the Olympiapark, you’ll know straight away that the Märchenbazar is no insider tip. The buses that drop you off directly at the Christmas market site are packed. It’s better to take the streetcar, even if it means a few minutes’ walk. It’s worth it, because contrary to what the buses might suggest, the area is not overcrowded and you can move around much more freely than at many other Munich Christmas markets.
Right at the entrance, you are greeted by a large sign with the name of the market in round block letters. Through the archway, you enter a wonderful world full of Christmas magic that lets you forget everyday life for a while. Art, gastronomy and performance await you here in a fantastic circus atmosphere.

What you can discover at the fairytale bazaar
At the Märchenbazar, you will find a mixture of classic wooden huts, food trucks and tents where you can purchase goods and delicacies. The culinary offerings are diverse and range from classics such as spaetzle and flamed salmon to burgers and okonomiyaki to fire banana and bánh mí. Here you can feast your way through all continents. The selection of drinks is just as large and leaves nothing to be desired.
In the tents, you can also browse through the wide range of handicrafts and clothing and purchase new treasures. If you would rather not spend money or perhaps even get rid of things, the swap store is the right place for you. Simply leave your things here or pick up something new.
A colorful program for everyone
In the fairytale tent, children can look forward to the daily fairytale hour and the Punch and Judy show on Sundays. They can make their own Christmas presents with handicrafts and candle making. But adults can also get active, for example at the poetry workshop. Last but not least, there are a variety of performances to marvel at, such as the rousing fire show.
The fairytale bazaar is organized by Wannda e. V., which is known for its open-air offerings in summer. Accordingly, you can expect a musical program with a mixture of DJs and concerts. There is also a special music and sing-along program for children. Finally, you can dance into the New Year at the open-air party on New Year’s Eve.
