There are so many Christmas markets in Munich that you can practically visit a different one every day. But if you still feel the urge to get out of the city during Advent, the surrounding area also has plenty to offer, such as Lake Hollern. Here, the Hecht und Sonne kiosk hosts the “Winter Magic” event every year, bringing a romantic holiday atmosphere to the lakeshore.
Serene Winter Magic
Hecht und Sonne isn’t just a simple kiosk—it’s a true institution at Lake Hollern. In the summer, you can spend wonderful hours on its beautiful, spacious terrace right on the shore. Even in winter, you don’t have to miss out on this lovely location, because that’s when the “Winter Magic” takes place. Every weekend during Advent and beyond, the kiosk transforms into a Christmas market where you can feast and browse.
Numerous delicious treats are waiting for you to sample, including flambéed salmon, Kasspatzn, raclette, and Schupfnudeln. There’s also something for the vegans among you. If you’re in the mood for a bit of nostalgia, sit by the fire with some bread on a stick, just like back in school.
After dinner, head over to the gift huts, where you can buy lovely presents for your loved ones (or yourself). If you’re still missing the perfect Christmas tree to place your gifts under, you’ll find one at the Winter Magic festival at Lake Hollern. If you’d like to burn off some energy, the best way to do so is on one of the two curling rinks. Be captivated by the fire show or join a torchlight hike.
Making Advent wreaths at Lake Hollern
At the Winter Magic event at Lake Hollern, you can not only buy gifts but also make your own in the craft workshop. There are also various workshops supporting regional projects. Children, in particular, will enjoy the changing hands-on stations. A highlight is the Advent wreath-making event on November 28, where you can design your own wreaths while enjoying punch and cookies. Materials and decorative items are provided. To participate, you must register in advance via email and pay a fee of €49.
The Winter Magic at Lake Hollern begins on Friday, November 27, and runs through Sunday, January 10, every weekend and on holidays. If you’d like to book the market exclusively for your event—such as a Christmas party—this is only possible during the week, from Tuesday through Thursday. Other reservations, however, are possible on weekends.
