It feels like the Bavarian summer break has only just begun, but it’s already coming to an end. Today marks the start of the last week of vacation before it’s back to school starting September 15! Fortunately, you won’t have to wait too long until the next break. We’ll give you an overview of the school vacations in Bavaria for the 2026 and 2027 school years and also let you know when all the holidays are.
School Vacations in Bavaria 2026 & 2027

The current year is already entering its final quarter, and it won’t be long until New Year’s Eve. Before we welcome 2027, you can still look forward to two more school breaks in Bavaria. In the new year, the Carnival break will soon follow. Here are the dates for the upcoming school year:
- Fall Break: Monday, November 2 through Friday, November 6, 2026
- Christmas Break: Thursday, December 24, 2026, through Friday, January 8, 2027
- Carnival Break: Monday, February 8 through Friday, February 12, 2027

If you ’re planning to travel next year, now’s the time to start making plans. The earlier you start, the cheaper it’ll usually be for you.
Public Holidays in Bavaria in the New School Year

Aside from the school breaks, you can also look forward to additional days off thanks to public holidays . Unfortunately, both October 3 and November 1 fall on a weekend this year, but in 2027 there will again be several public holidays on weekdays:
- German Unity Day: Saturday, October 3, 2026
- All Saints’ Day: Sunday, November 1, 2026
- Christmas Holidays: Friday, December 25, and Saturday, December 26, 2026
- New Year’s Day: Friday, January 1, 2026
- Epiphany: Wednesday, January 6, 2026

- Labor Day: Saturday, May 1
- Ascension Day: Thursday, May 6

Especially in May, you can look forward to an extra day off outside of the Bavarian school breaks thanks to Ascension Day. Many schools will also take the following Friday, May 7, off to create a long weekend. Knowing when you’ll finally have a longer break makes going to school a lot easier. If you still have a few growing pains after the summer break, you can make the start of the school year a little sweeter with some fun activities .
