Celtic settlement
The Trojerhof has been around since about 500 BC, making it one of the oldest mountain farmsteads in the state . The Celts were the first to settle here, as the farm’s name still suggests today: “Troi” means something like “cattle trail.” Due to its location on the border with Austria, disputes arose between Bavaria and Tyrol in the 18th century. At that time, the state borders were not as clearly defined as they are today, so both regions claimed the Trojerhof for themselves. As a result, the farmers had to pay double taxes until someone came up with the idea of dividing the farm and constructing a second building.
Both buildings are still preserved in their original form today. Architecturally, they resemble each other with their white stone walls and wooden roof trusses. The ensemble also includes the small farm chapel from 1649. Inside, there are detailed frescoes depicting, among other things, the continents of Africa, Asia, Europe, and America. The Rococo altar is decorated with ornate details and gold elements. Anton Fuchs received the Rosenheim District Monument Award for the restoration and preservation of the chapel.
Stay at the Trojerhof
Today, the farmstead is divided into a main building and a guesthouse. The guesthouse features guest rooms where you can stay overnight if you’re in the mood for a short rural getaway. The Trojerhof is located at an elevation of 656 meters and serves as a wonderful starting point for hikes, such as through the Gießenbachklamm gorge. Here you’ll also discover, among other things, Bavaria’s largest waterwheel, which stands 7 meters tall.
From the Trojerhof itself, you have a beautiful view of the Wilder Kaiser in Austria, whose ski area is among the best in the world. The Trojerhof is home to animals, including cows, sheep, and cats.
