When everyday life in Munich gets too noisy, there’s a true haven less than two hours away: the Tegelberg in the Allgäu. Just about two kilometers from the famous castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, the summit of the Ammergau Alps towers over the landscape. Whether you’re hiking from spring through fall or skiing in winter: Here, you’ll experience views in every season that you won’t soon forget!
The best view in Bavaria? The view of Neuschwanstein

The biggest highlight awaits you already on the ascent or when looking out from the observation deck. Here, you’ll look down on Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau Castle, nestled among beautiful lakes and meadows.
Panoramic Views and Thrills on the Tegelbergbahn
Whether for convenience or because you’re seeking an adrenaline rush, the facilities at Tegelberg leave nothing to be desired. The famous Tegelbergbahn cable car takes you effortlessly to an altitude of over 1,700 meters in just a few minutes. Even during the ride, you’ll glide over the rock faces and enjoy a spectacular view.
If you’re looking to take a break afterward, make yourself comfortable on the sun terrace of the Panorama Restaurant or at the Tegelberghaus. With a cool drink in hand, you can enjoy the best panoramic views of Lake Forggensee and the beautiful landscape.
Once you’re back down, the 760-meter-long summer toboggan run at the valley station is an absolute must-do for young and old alike. It’s the perfect way to round off a successful day trip with a good dose of fun.
Hiking & Climbing Routes for Every Fitness Level

Everyone can find the perfect hiking route on the Tegelberg! More relaxed hikers can take a stroll along the “Königsrunde” or the “Naturpfad Ahornreitweg,” while more ambitious hikers can tackle the “Marienbrückenweg” along the spectacular Pöllatschlucht, for example. However, all hiking routes to the Tegelberghaus and the panoramic restaurant take two to three hours and require appropriate gear.
In addition, the modern mountain sports center offers the perfect introduction to well-maintained via ferrata routes of various difficulty levels: from the challenging “Tegelbergsteig” and “Fingersteig” to the “Gelbe Wand” via ferrata, which—thanks to professional mountain guides—is also suitable for experiential education and climbing beginners.

For true adrenaline junkies: paragliding on the Tegelberg
It’s no coincidence that the Tegelberg is considered an absolute hotspot for hang gliders and paragliders. If you want to experience the majestic scenery for yourself from a bird’s-eye view, you don’t even need a pilot’s license. Whether you want to take a paragliding course at the local flight school or soar over the impressive landscape on a tandem flight with a pro: Here, you’ll get up close and personal with the mountain air!
Winter Magic on the Tegelberg

During the cold season, the Tegelberg transforms into a true winter wonderland. Skiers can enjoy the snow-covered slopes in the valley or the 4.2-kilometer-long ski route from the mountain station, while cross-country skiers can use the 2-kilometer-long “Neuschwanstein Loipe” trail below the royal castle. From the mountain station, two trails also lead you on a leisurely winter hike to the “Ort der Besinnung” (Place of Contemplation) or up to the Branderschrofenschulter, where a spectacular panoramic view stretching all the way to the Zugspitze awaits you.

The drive to the Tegelberg takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes by car (via the A96/B17). You can also get there by public transportation—for example, by train to Füssen and then by regional bus to the valley station.
