When and where cross-country skiing is permitted in Munich
If there is enough snow, cross-country skiing is permitted in the city’s green spaces and parks. The trails used to be groomed by machine by the city, but this has no longer been possible in recent years due to the low snowfall and it is no longer economically viable to purchase the expensive machines. The town groomed up to 23.5 kilometers in total.
However, you can still make your own tracks or, if you are lucky, other cross-country skiing enthusiasts will do the work for you. Then nothing stands in the way of you and your enjoyable cross-country skiing. As there is supposed to be snow at the beginning of the year, you may soon be able to strap on your skis and get going.
These places are ideal for cross-country skiing in Munich
There are plenty of beautiful parks for cross-country skiing in Munich. The trail near Nymphenburg Palace is particularly popular, but skiing in the palace park itself is expressly prohibited. If you would like to cross-country ski in a park, the Westpark, the Ostpark, the Paul-Diehl-Park in Pasing and the Riemer Stadtpark are great alternatives.
Cross-country skiing in Munich is also possible along the Isar and offers you a wonderful view of the river. The Isar floodplains can be divided into four trails, which offer you a total distance of 5.5 kilometers. Please note, however, that skating is not possible here and you will have to make do with classic cross-country skiing.
